Well I have been thjinking about a new idea for helmets.  Now a motorcycle has limited room, not like a car where you can put things all over.  I love music and the one thing I miss about riding is listening to music.  When im in a car going through the twisters, I put a fast tune on and go, it focuses me.  Now you can always use an mp3 player with ear buds or those communications sets that attach to your helemet, but I was thinking why not build it into the helemt.  Have speakers built into it so you can hear and maybe a mic, build everything into the helemt and have the hardware in your jacket or mounted somewhere on the bike.  You could use it as a radio, hook it to your cell phone, or even for bike to bike comm.  It wouldnt be that hard, you could probably do it your self by removing the linner and modifying some low profile speakers.  Or if we get helemt makers in on it they could mount them into the shell itsell, (inside layer)  Where you have an outter protective layer, then an inner layer that houses the speakers, mic, and wires that run out the back.  You could even go one further and integrate a radar dectector into the helemt.

What do you guys think?  Would this gear compromise the helemet?  If it was done right I dont think it would.  Input?
throw the leg over, fire it up, hold on.  drive it like you stole it.

hmmm, how about those taking the earpieces off a headset and mounting them inside the helmet?  although I wouldn't want one embedded in the side of my head if I crashed

thats what I was thinking as well, if it was flush with the side of the helemet it wouldnt be a problem, or if it was low enough around the bottom.  The earbuds dont really work unless they are right in your ear.

i built a speaker headset thing for my helmet
i use it with a throat mic and a 2 way radio
its just a jack haning out the back of the helmet so a cd player would work too

Collett uses thin speakers for their communicators. They are about 1/4" thick and 1" in diameter. Depending on how your helmet fits in respect to your ears, the speakers fit in the ear pocket of the helmet with enough clearance so they don't touch your ears. You could cut out a little of the foam to allow for a little additional clearance without any problems.
