well today was my bikes first drop, wait until you hear how it happened, I feel so stupid. I had just gotten home from a ride, and i decided to put it on the center-stand. I'm not a big guy, about 5'6", I've only popped it up on the center-stand twice before by myself. The other times I had someone help me rock it back. So I pop my left foot on the stands foot peg, lean back and grab the back handle and give it all I got. I pulled too hard towards me and the bike started leaning and before I knew it the bike was comming down on top of me, I thought if anything im gonna atleast make sure I don't scratch the fairing. So I dove under the bike and wasn't expecting it to fall that hard, I've had my dirtbike fall on me plenty of times. So there I was, lying in my garage with my bike on top of me, it took about 5 minutes of yelling before my brother came out laughing his ass off :x . After I thought that this could be a recurring event and I would rip my hair out if I scratched up my fairing. :o

Any one know where I can find a fairing protector kit for my 04 F?
any help appreciated

hahaaahaah
sorry to hear that dude. . .
but it's such a funny story just imagining it. . .

i bought fairing protectors for my F from
http://www.venhorstrocks.com/SUZUKI_GS500F_PARTS.html

enjoy dude and be more careful next time!
(instead of rocking it, i learned a trick. . .put the center stand down, but make sure that both the left and right side are touching the ground. . .then just put all your weight (by standing on it, basically) and the stand should just prop up. . .)
i'm your height too and it was tough at first to do it on my own,
but i just got some guy EVEN SHORTER than me to teach me!

there are others out there
i think lockhart phillips sells some
but you gotta search for that

cheers,

hit the gym... lol..

I turn my handlebars full lock left, put my left hand on the left handgrip, my right on the passenger grab bar... and stand on the centerstand footrest thing.

I've found it's more important to pull 'up' than 'back'....

When I learned to put the bike up on the center stand in motorcycle training, there was a very petite girl (probably 80 lbs) in my group. Our instructor told us that she could prop up her 350lb bike no problem. Face your body towards your bike, put one hand on the handlebars, one on the back of the bike (hopefully there's a hand-hold of some kind), put your foot closest to the front of the bike on the center stand stubby, turn your head towards the back of the bike (chin up), bend your front knee, and lift your back foot, planting all your body weight onto the centerstand stubby while leaning towards the back of the bike a bit. Essentially you just stand up, and the bike stands up with you.

Re-reading that the description seems a little overkill, but the point is simple. You don't pull the bike up and back. You use the leverage of the center-stand stubby and your body weight and you let the bike stand itself up. The girl propped her bike up on the first try.  :thumb:

That's a story that most wouldn't admit...

I've seen those "fairing protectors" advertised on ebay... They don't look like they offer much protection... My buddy's R1 has a bad a$$ set of sliders that he's tested out twice with only a small scratch on the fairing...

There has to be something better out there we just need to find something that can be adapted to the F model...

That story made me laugh IRL. I would have done the same, don't feel bad  :P

The fairing protectors from Venhor Strocks or whatever are better than nothing, but I do have to say...

I don't know how much protection those would offer, because the place those bolt onto was the exact place that crumpled all the way in, out of the plastic and left a big hole on my fairing, and the fairing wasn't even broken or anything. You can see it from the link to my page in my sig, it's the picture of the right side. Look at the good condition of the fairing and see how that spot is magically smashed in for some reason.

It looks like my fairing might have recieved more damage if there would have been a fairing protector bolted there. But they probably are better than nothing, look at all the scratches :P

Finding a good place to mount one is going to be the hard part... I've looked at my bike a couple times and never really came up with a solution... But then I've never taken the fairing off of it either.. I've thought about cutting a whole through the frame and welding in a threaded billet but not really sure if that's a good idea and placement would be another issue...
