Hey
A friend o' mine got a '94 gs500E, and we're about to do the usual maintenance.  I couldn't find in the board info about the forks:

Standard oil is 10w? do you recommend a 15w ?
How much oil should we pour per fork ?

Thanks
Javier

Welcome!

10w is what the manufacturer suggests, you could try 15w; alot of people do, with Progressive fork spings. I suggest 377ml (cc's) per leg with the stock springs, 350ml with the Progressives.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

I also have a new (well, to me it is new, it's an '89) GS.  It probably hasn't run for years and after a new battery and fresh gas (with a lot of carb cleaner sprayed in and starting fluid) it starts with the touch of the button and idles smooth.

The problem: it smokes like Bob Marley.  I could live with it, and kill skeeters like a muh-cheen, but I'd rahter not.  I am hoping that one of you knows whether or not A) it will stop and that is just natural for a GS that hasn't run for years B) it will stop because that is what happens when you put about 100 times too much engine cleaner in the gas or C) it needs new rings, valve guides, etc.

Somebody help this old fool. . .
