squealing rear brake

on my gs500f the rear brake squeals almost everytime i apply it. does anybody know what that could be?  the bike only has 1100 miles on it.

consider it a gs500f trademark.....mine squeaks too as does many others from what i've seen on the forums.

Somedays its worse, somedays better, not much you can do about it...just live with it i guess.

Different pad compositions might have some different results? anyone know?

Sometimes when the rear break pads are changed, the anti-squeal shims that go between the pads and pistons are left out on re-assembly.  Check that they are still there, and if they are, pull them out and put a light smear of copper-based grease e.g. 'coppaslip' on each face of the shim.  If the shims are gone, a light smear of coppaslip on the backs of the pads/face of the piston might help.

Mine does the same thing, maybe try sparying some compressed air or brake clean in there to clean it out, be careful to wipe away excess brake clean as soon as possible though to avoid any paint damage.

Yeah I have the same problem on my 99' and it blows. I have tried everything from the anti-squeal stuff in a can, switching the shims around, using sythetic brake lube stuff on the shims and pads, all with little to no success.

I also swithced the pads to EBC organic pads and had the same problem....
just have to learn to live with it I guess.

I think this is one of those, "It's not a fault, it's characteristic" things.

A couple of the accessory catalogues list products to clean the discs and alledgedly stop the squeal and/or put on back of the pads/piston face, they may work, I did ask once but as I recall no-one gave a wholehearted endorsement and I figure that if you were opening up the brake anyway, fine do it but if not is was probably not worth the trouble and have learned to live with it.

It does confound me how some days it's silent and other times sounds like a wailing banshee.

Mine only makes noise if I hit the back break first before the front or if I only use the back brake. If I get the right ratio of front vs. back I get no noise at all.
