Getting out the diaphragm

I'm going to take out my diaphragms to give it a visual inspection.   Is there anything I need to know to do this? I'm just assuming I take off the tank and remove the diaphragm covers and pop it out....   Is there anything else?  Thanks

When you pull out those diaphrams, (at least for the GS400) the needles for the needle jets are in the bottom. Make sure to be careful with those small parts. Also beware because the diaphrams may be sealed with gasket sealer between the carb housing and the diaphragm covers. When you seal it back make sure for a full and complete seal.

And gasket sealer... is that something I can find at any auto store?

Yep! It's not nessesary, but if you cant seem to seal it properly itd be nice. Just make sure to be careful with the needles as they have notches on them that set the level they sit at.

I figure before I take everything apart and send them to srinath I can at least figure out if the problem is even carb related.

On each of your diaphragm covers you will notice a little black nubbin about 1/2" tall(a little rubber cap with a clamp on it - used for synching carbs), directly under it is a teenie teenie rubber O-ring that will vanish once it hits the floor, so be very careful when pulling the covers off, especially if you are doing it with them still on the bike.
