Found this on ebay, reading thru the description it says they will work for a gs500.   now I know that I may not need 5 of the same size, but for the price, would it be worth buying them anyway?

i've had luck with just taking my shims to the local dealer and trading them out.

I think most people start-out with shims 2.60 or a bit larger, then go smaller from there(*).  So there's not much call for 2.85 shims.

(*)For some reason, Srinath seems to need larger and larger shims.

ok... wasn't sure what sizes were more popular.  planning to do my valve adjustment sometime soon. I doubt I'd have that big a change if they start out in the 2.60 range.

Oddly I dont think My shim sizes are moving anywhere significant ... have you considered the possibility the shims are wearing more than anyhting else ... I start with a 260 say, and the next time I open it I pull it and see its 258 ... I swap it for a 260 and In my mind I went thicker ... I never go by the thickness it has written on it ... just what I measure ... That's 1 shim up or 1/2 shim up in my mind ... then few thousand later ... I open up and see its 258 again, and I put in a 260 or 261 and voila I am up 1 shim now ... Imagine the same scenario repeated 4 times with shims going out one valve and on the next and so on ... till finally all my shims are too thin, of course the rest above the range are too thick ... and I have pretty much convinced myself they all should be thicker ... Anyway ... I might have equal and opposite wear ... like the under side of bucket and the top of the valve stem wear about the same as the valve angle face and the seat ... making for no change in actual clearance ...
Cool.
Srinath.
