Good lord i cussed....

Ya i know most of you aren't in the area but this has been a growing problem over here.  I have had to argue parking tickets more than i care to mention.  Most of the time they were dismissed....and that's because most of the time they were unfairly written...for example...i got a ticket for "piggybacking" as it was written on the ticket.  This being for sharing a metered parking space with a car.  Problem was i got there first...and why the heck should it matter..??

Anyhow...after work i found this card on my bike with a link to this site which has a petition addressing this very problem.  Though most of you aren't "locals" i encourage you to sign.  Hey you could be a potential motorcycling tourist with a need for safe, secure and legal parking in NYC.

Thanx in advance...  :thumb:

well first of all i can see why piggybacking is illegal.  they are trying to make money off charging people to park.  if u park in a spot with someone else, they dont make money off you.  i mean it sucks but i still can see why...  charging people to park their car is ridiculous as it is

Signature 1680. I really hate having to park on a sidewalk or someplace all ghetto because NO PLACE has motorcycle parking (except ONE mall and my college. But the campus police don't care where you park anyway, go college.).

1682 ... whooo hooo ...
But weaselnoz one small counter point ... one person paid for the spot ... ok now with a car that whole spot is occupied, with a bike 90% is empty ... OK the 10 people that part there may take turns feeding the meter ... other than that ... no real issues ... In cities the social and economic impact of motorcycles is totally over looked or ignored ... the cities will be a 100 times worse if the bike were all replaced by cars ... SFO, LA ... 2 places I have seen and been in meetings ... totally need 40-50-60% of the cars replaced by bikes ... waaay too many cars ...
Cool.

You should post that link over at www.cycleforums.com somewhere, maybe in the sportbikes section.  That place has like 23,000 members.

I tried to post it but I can't post URLs yet because I don't have 15 posts yet....and it's a good cause too...damn solicitors...

Weazel...they make 10-20  times the money (or  more ) off of writing citations for illegal parking than they do off the meters... ( say it's 75$ for the ticket..versus  the 3$ it cost you (or however much it is..)... for the meter.

They WANT to write you tickets...

They passed a parking law in Annapolis MD about 2 years ago.... They used to have alot of bikes (6 or so..) per parking spot downtown... It was mainly down  on Dock road..which is the waterfront-main street area  where all the shops are ( touristy area..).  There's a few hangouts (bars etc) that get frequented..

Now you can only have 2 bikes per parking spot...Anymore and all 3 get a ticket.  Now if You and I parked and left and the 3rd guy showed up later....how is that fair to you and me???

We ( a few hundred )  bikes went down there the day the law went into effect and parked our bikes- 1 bike per spot - and stayed alll damn day.  We handed out fliers to the people that were trolling for parking spaces. They made  about 5 parking spots motorcycle only and free.. Some cars parked there... 3 got tickets and one got towed....(the one that got towed got a flier under the windshield wiper...(yes I did it...hehehehe).

This law does nothing but allow more tickets to be written -which gives them more income.... It has nothing to do with sensible parking laws...

If you can put 6 bikes in a spot...why make them take up 3 spots when parking is at a huge premium there....?

It's always about money....
When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

There is more to this site than a message board.  Check out http://www.gstwin.com
