i'm trying to figure out how tall saddlebags could be and still clear the stock exhaust.
i believe Kerry's bags are 11", and they look pretty good, but i'm wondering how much clearance there is.  could they be an inch taller, 3 inches?

I'll be mounting my saddlebags before shipping them off to alexXx so I can take closeup pictures of how I attach the clips to the bike.  I will try to remember to take a picture or two of the exhaust clearance with a ruler for you.

The only problem is that it's been raining, and the bad weather is supposed to continue for a few days.  I may be forced into doing some night-time flash photography  :x  out in the shed.  That ought to make for some bright "bursts" off the retroreflective bits!

thanks Kerry.  i'd appreciate that.

according to something i read, it's recommended to keep the bags 2" or more off the exhuast.

i went and ordered some bags today that are 14" tall.  having subsequently gone out and measured, i'm pretty sure there's no way they'll fit.  unfortunately, they've already shipped.

fortunately, returns are pretty painless with motorcycle superstore.  if i remember correctly they include a return label with every order and it might even cover postage.

the bright side of my order already having shipped is that my rain suit should be here thursday, which is about when it's supposed to stop raining.

So bag height shouldn't be more than 11 inches? Has anybody tried either of these set ups off of ebay...?

I like this set up, I probably wouldn't use the tailbag very often.

I think the difference between these saddle bags and the ones from above is that those are 4 inches wider and have an outside pocket.

.....what do you think?

Any of those will work with room to spare on the stock exhaust.

Hi there,
I've got these Chase Harper Aeropac II bags and love them.
They fit perfectly with the stock exhaust.

I use them with one of their tail trunks:

Great bags, great quality, and they stay very secure.
Be sure to order the rain covers, too, if you buy these.
Good luck,
