dolepineapple, that's a good plan...keep your expectations way way way low. who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised how everything fits so well...errr...preobably not!  :lol:

WERE in storage mode.  .  .

until i took it out a few days ago to remove the fairing and silicone spary the engine. . .

last night i had a chance to put it back on. . .
and all it took was putting the battery back on
and taking the plastic bag out that i stuffed in the exhaust. . .
and tada,
the bike WAS in storage mode :lol:  :lol:  :lol:

Making a "proper" undertail/hugger may be a little of an over statement. Copying theirs is not a problem but sourcing a tail light (for additional pieces) would be. I have been giving serious thought to making a undertail which uses the stock tail light but have not looked into options for other lights, like one from another bike.

As for a hugger, I am planning on making a SV part this weekend and using it as a model for the GS. Easy to mock up a master. I already have the SV hugger mold. Almost finished with the 01+ gp tail master and it is going better than I thought.

Wait until yours comes in and then see how you like it.


When I installed an undertail on my TLR, the fit around the tail light was not as good as I would have liked. The directions sucked since the stock trunk area had to be cut out. The license plate did not fit US plates. I had to make my own bracket. It was made by www.Eurobikes.com and was around $250.

i don't think that would be a problem...i've done some research and happen to find some...they all seem to have the correct diameter to fit the undertail i just installed.

i'm actually thinking about going with a led version.

A gp tail is a minimal race seat/cowl. A single unit with little to no padding. Not really recommended for street riding due to lack of comfort. Actually this seat design is very comfortable on the track.

ok... dgyver has the 01+ models covered... i've been biting my tongue for the past month or so, but this is what i was about to post last week...

i've seen enough about *looks good in the photos* followed by reports of being a job from hell to install!

so... this monkey is going to throw something together.

i have 3 GS500 bikes *as some of you know* sitting in my garage *cough*

i need to sell 2 of these bikes before April 15th , which leaves me a couple of months for the rebuild and modifications.

i also have several pounds of oil clay, and all required tools / skill / *time needed to build a direct bolt in undertail that looks similar to the brazilian export, bolts in like it's OEM, and doesnt cost $100 for shipping.

i will be working on this over the next 3 - 6 weeks.
yes, photos will come as construction continues

i'm starting this weekend with a few cardboard templates, them next week moving the bike to another location for the oil clay portion.

catch will be... all parts will be unpainted!

just to clarify, the mold i'm making will be for the 89-00 model. i dont have the 01 plastics YET, but hope to sometime over the summer. *i'm working on gathering the parts to update my bike.

thats something i wont know until i have the first one complete. i'm thinking it will be around 20-30 in fiberglass. i want to make some $ for my time if i start doing these in a larger scale production.

i want to make them the same thickness as the current plastic, so durability wont be a factor. as for fit, i know it's going to take a while for me to get the mold perfect, but i want it to be a direct bolt in *like the brazil kit is supposed to be*. from the photos, the only thing i can see that might change is the location of the tool kit.
