Yes it does seem like they have cleaned up a bit but you never know, when i decide on ordering i will be sure to let everyone know how easy/hard it was to install. And a side note if it doesnt fit and it would require me to dremil im going to send it back and get my money back. I always have the option of sawing away my back fender up to the tool box portion poking out and getting a nice integrater kit for my back light and it will still look great.

PS
The review was topnotch regardless with attention to detail ;)

Thanks

Alex

I received mine the other day but haven't installed. I ordered the LED lights that jetswing linked earlier in the thread, I figure when they come in I'll get to work on putting it together. I wanted to wait until the parts came in to measure the openings for the lights. (wish I had the spec's from one of those R1 lights) It looks like I'll have about 1/8 inch around the lens to hide.

I have a blue and white 500f and the white doesn't match up to well. Due to the fact the white tail section is fitted to the undertail and the paint doesn't match I might just have the whole tail/undertail painted blue adding to the whole expense of the project.

Just looking at the parts I think the taillight included is crap and should be discarded before the part is shipped. As for the fiberglass it's not the best I've seen but not bad. I'm sure if I tried to make it myself I would have spent at least the $250 in trial and error let alone the paint.

I have a good feeling about the parts. If it all fits without too much work (or duct tape) I'll give it a big  :thumb:

which lights did you get? the ones from 2wheeljunkies were too small!

Uhhh... I bought the ones from 2wheeljunkie...  :dunno:

For sale, Two LED lights from 2wheeljunkie...

I measured the opening and figured there would be an 1/8 inch on all sides of the light, I was thinking of building a bracket to hold the lights and rubber to seal them from the elements.

Or of course I'll be throwing some money away on trial and error.

I was also looking into adding LED bulbs to the light that was included but I like the idea of yellow signals.

haha...two led lights for sale here too

i don't know...the measurement roughly matched but when i actually tried on the light, there was just too much gap around the light for it to work...give it a shot with rubber gaskets.  :dunno:

yea, i definitely want integrated lights.

Didn't somebody here have an older R1 light? Commuterguy or Indestructableman? I get those two confused...

The R1 kind of looks the same, maybe we can get some measurements.

Okay... I'm going to make the LED lights from 2wheeljunkie work.. I've made a mouting panel out of plexiglass and have them centered into the light openings... I picked plexiglass because it's easy to work with and I had some laying around..

Jetswing, could you post some pictures of your dremel work? I figure the tabs at the rear have to be removed was there anything else?

JetSwing

you can kind of see how much i shaved off...was too furious that i didn't take any before and after pictures during the installation. all the tabs gotta go if you want a smoother fit. you also have to drill the holes.

let me know how the LED lights work out.

This has got to be the worst fitting part I've come across yet!

The hugger fits nicely but the undertail is a disaster.

Nice paint match!

I'm almost tempted to try and make my own!

Anybody know where to find some good info on making molds and fiberglassing for dummies?

JetSwing

oooh...that's just sucks. sorry it didn't go any better for you. at least you didn't had to stuggle witht he hugger. mine is still all crooked.  :x

hey, if you still plan to finish out the installation (i think you should) just grind the body panel edges...you'll get a better fit.

have you even bothered with the tail light assembly yet? i'm just wondering if the light housing fits inside the frame without having to grind the side of the housing off. a fabricated part not fitting very well is one thing...knowingly selling part that doesn't fit, without any disclaimer, is total bull!

I didn't even mess with the tail light included... I made a mounting bracket that centers the 2wheeljunkie lights insided the undertail... it looks pretty slick with those lights.

I think I'm going to give myself two weeks to try and make my own, if it's a disaster or looks ghetto I'll work with the aluizio part. It appears that after the first test fitting (the photos above) that the parts are going to have to be painted anyway so maybe I should paint my own version.

Here is the undertail with the 2wheeljunkie lights. I started to make my own version but after getting started I discovered it would take too long. I don't want to spend half of season playing with fiberglass. Maybe next winter I'll fool around with it again (or buy a ducati).

Well I'm off to get this thing painted blue to match the rest of the bike.

Hey dole, did you get yours together yet?

Yea, I like the way it looks also. I just got a CBR 600 RR rear fairing and plan on making it work and then maybe an undertail exhaust.

That thing looks cool but the fit and finish is horrible.

JetSwing

hey, it looks nice...are the tail light bright enough? i was working on them to fit the undertail past weekend. but i'm getting ready for a road trip so i'm holding it off till later.

have you drilled the holes yet? if not, you might want to do that before getting them painted.

and where's the hugger??
My hunch was right...Pandy is the biggest Post Whore!

fettcols

I haven't hooked up the wiring for the lights... I'm going to probably get the hugger painted as well. By buddy wasn't at the shop yesterday so the painting process hasn't started.

I'll probably get started on the exhaust and filter and truck it over to the shop to be rejeted while the parts are getting painted...

Then it's on to the '89 clip-on's
