help with an oil change

Hi out there- I am a new owner of a '92 Suzuki GS500E thats in great condition..However I attempted to try my luck at changing the oil myself.. with NO experience in this area..I followed the how to instructions on this site...and everthing that could go wrong has...please help me..first, one of the head bolts broke off..so I replaced those with allen head stainless steel bolts.. and then when I put the face plate back on and crank her up...she leaked..so I ordered a new seal for the face plate which didnt help because I put it back together and cranked her and she still   leaked.. Is there some special way that face plate goes that I am not seeing or am I just a complete idiot on this matter....

Synopsis: Grit on the mating surfaces is an enemy, and it's all too easy for the O-ring to slip out of its groove and get pinched btween the filter cover and the engine block as you reassemble everything.

since you replaced the studs.....
did you use bolts that are tooooooo long?
try adding washers to the bolts.....and see if that helps
