a few months back i purchased 2 gs bikes from a guy in texas. *great guy to work with on the deal, and even helped me load the bikes!*

so i'm working on them to resell... but one of the bikes was in desperate need of many things!

it appeared the 92 hadnt seen the road in several years, and would take more then just a carb rebuild and rear tire to be worthy of selling.

so... here is a list of things the bike is being treated to...
clean / reline fuel tank
clean / rebuild carbs *new o-rings / seats*
new K&N lunch box filter
adjust valves *thanks forum for helping with the kit!*
new spark plugs
new oil filter / fresh oil
jet hot coating on the stock exhaust!!!
new tires *front and rear Michelin brand for both!*
new brakes! EBC front & rear
fresh brake fluid front / rear
new fork seals / wipers / oil
new hand grips
new bulbs for all lights but head light *even if they were working*
new seat! *old cover has some electrical tape covering a hole*
sand blasted and repainted parts for almost everything on the bike!
going black metalic on the tank / fender/ body
new decals in white for SUZUKI on the tank and GS500E on the body
having the locks check and matched for 1 ket for all 3 locks.
new keyS cut. YES, 2 will be going with the bike.

and of course, the basic checks of lube in each cable / replaced if needed, cleaned chain *already checked and doesnt need replaced* it's a DID o-ring chain
the carbs will be jetted for the air cleaner, but still have the stock exhaust. *i know i can find details on what i need to jet it to... just havent searched for them yet*

so... here is the bike!

this is what i looked like when i picked it up

and here it is now... http://www.gstwins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=4

i'm open for suggestiong and advice!!!
i will do a photo documentation for the entire build.

AND BTW, the forks were easy to rebuild with the tool mentioned in this thread http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7084

THANKS!!!

Good job!   :thumb:  Your 92 looks almost like my 90 project. I got a load of new parts and started on the handle bar rebuild tonight. Took some pics but will make an update post to my "Just picked up my GS.." post tomorrow or maybe Sunday.

Showroom quality is not quite where I am going. "Used and well care for" is my destination. Previously, it certainly was used, not well cared for.

Going the distance with this things makes us familiar with the product. Let's just hope our engines don't need such attention. After getting past the seized starter gear/clutch problem, I am worried about oil pressure.

I do intend to check the  valve setting before firing her up.

One bridge at a time...

Reminds me of my bike, except mine was completly stripped.  I go tomorrow to pick it up from the powdercoater.  I wonder how many are doing GS tear downs this winter? So far thats 3.

update!

looks like i'll have a tank for a 89-00 for sale soon! as for the 96 i ride the most, it looks like it will be going in for some major cosmetic work! *dont ask, i'll have photos later* and yes, i am ok!

check the for sale section in the next couple of weeks. i'll have some parts for sale.

too tired!

well this week is catching the best of me, and today i was able to paint and bake some parts!

they are currently in an electric keiln and should be finished in another 4 hours.  no, not powder coated, but i'm firing them at a decent temp to bake the paint in hard.  ;)

i was hoping to have the parts finished and ready to go tonight for installation, but a few things held me up. i'll have photos sunday evening if all goes as planed.
