Does anyone know what month the manufacturer can begin to call a bike the next years model?

And when you all bought your bike how long did it take for you to get your title?.  I bought my bike almost three months ago no title rvcd yet spoke with the hole in the wall dealer and they said due to the holidays its a little delayed. They sold it to me as a 2000 manufacuter sticker show june of 1999 not sure if in fact it is a 2000 or 1999 and the bike is a piece of junk and they will not take it back just that they will do the repair work at discounted price ohhh and to top if off they say I was the one who damaged the clutch, what a crock of cow dung the bike only had 1400 miles on it when I bought it I do not ride the clutch, I did not damage the fork seals on and off course the rust that is going into the carbs from a rusted out fuel tank that you can tell they cleaned the neck of because its all pitted. I was going to fix the front forks and stuff but my better half asked me to wait to see what the lovely gentlemen say at the chop shop.

:x

Thanks for any advice

There is a thread or subsection of threads that address the year/model year issue. My project GS and the donor are both 1989 manufacture date but considered 1990 models. The model year is designated by the letter. K = 1989, L = 1990, etc. Go figure. It could be that the bikes are made in quantity way ahead of delivery. When sellling on a global scale, manufacturing scheduling and delivery have odd relationships with marketing.

Regarding your dealer woes and title issues it sounds like a less than customer focused business. High end shops have somone who does nothing but work on titles and finances. I visited one in Ohio this past summer and couldn't move ten feet without somenone wanting to help. I finally relented to the finance/title manager's attention. She also taught MSF courses and was very understanding and attentive to not trying to sell me fire-breathing liter bike that would get me killed.

Get your business settled with this crew and move on to someone else.

I couldn't answer that exact question, but you can know FOR SURE what model year the bike IS.

See this post for info on the telltale suffix letter (part of the VIN number) and my subsequent post in that same thread for an example using my VIN number.

My '99 was manufactured in April 1998.
