i have an 89 gs500, 21k miles, clean, has drag bars, polished lips, bar end mirrors, full exhaust system by 2 brothers, etc.  i would like to get about $1100 for it, but i dont see that happening...

i traded my zx-6r for this bike plus cash, and now i want to sell it to buy a motocross project bike.  any ideas on how much its worth?  it runs flawless, has a clean title.  only thing it needs is a new front tire.

Here's what the NADA Guide has for an '89 GS500  Appears to be a few hundred less than what you're asking for.

The On-Line Kelly Blue Book for an '89 GS500 seems to concur.

Still, you're the best judge of the market around you and the condition of your bike.  These resources, as well as CycleTrader.com are just guides for a stock bike.

get the stock stuff, make them pretty, put them back on, price is the same, then sell your aftermarket stuff to the GS comunity for REASONABLE prices, the stuff is used after all

an 89 in EXCELLENT condition is worth about $800 imo.

I paid $700 for mine (with unseen problem... goats..)

my 89 bought with race ready parts on it, progressives, gold emulators,Gsxr shock, Hindle full exhaust, 400$ just had to add a battery petcock, and gas to start. the Worth of the bike will be the same, aftermarket stuff or not,  say you get 600 for the bike (still stretching for an 89) with the stock stuff on it, sepratelysold  full exhaust 100,progressives 50, K&N 30. etc etc,

Old Mr. Wilson

I was SHOCKED to see how little my 2000 GS500EY was worth with only 1507 miles on it! Jap bikes really don't hold value well do they? Or do any besides the Harleys? I may sell mine one day but I don't see that happening.
This is definitely one of the top bike forums on the net. Great support system for the 500E owners! If I've never told the moderators or owners, I apologize! Wilson

p.s. even if it IS filled with freaky almost nutty people at times! :)
Taxes are Good. Millions that have been on Welfare for the last 30 years are depending on you. Also Millions that are coming over the border each year are depending on YOU.
Also taxes will fix our shitty schools and roads that have been broken for 40+ years.

You really don't get it do you???

The Buddha

Look at it another way man, with 47K on mine ... I had to beat off the guy that wanted to buy it for $500 ... so if you're afraid you're not going to get market value for it, put more miles on it ... eventually you'll get what its worth ...   ... I put 60K on mine I doubt that its gonna be hard to get $400, as long as its complete, fairly par looking for the age, and nohting is broken ... aka its runs and everything works fine and isn't missing parts. Yea its only $400, but hey I squeezed 60K from it. If I put 100K on it ... heck I believe it should go in a museum and hence be worth more

It's not that jap bikes don't hold their value Mr. Wilson, you have to remember this is a 16 year old motorcycle with some mileage on it that cost 3 grand brand spankin' new. Add to that the fact that there are millions of them around and it doesn't give you much of a seller's market!

Blueknyt

well, look at harley Davidson for a second. you cant tell me, that More R&D goes into thier bikes the Jap bikes to bump the price. No way in hell, can you convince me the Aluminum and steel is better grade or machined better then jap bikes. tiptop of all, you cant prove to me that given 2 bikes of same basic size and power put through the same driving conditions by the same driver  with nothing other then chainging oil, chain/belt tightening, and Tires that the Harley will last longer then the jap bikes.  so then what, IF any,  REAL reason should harley cost more, or hold its value more then equaly rated Jap bike?  I dont have anything really against HD other then the absurd cost per pound factor.

Some may counter with then why do so many Jap bikes copy the look and styleing of HD? cuz like anything else a copy is going to be cheaper, Might not even be worse, but cheaper.

the only thing i can think of that fits the equation, is Pride.
Frankly, i find more pride in my GS, cost me little to get Even used, and low maintainence(all things considered)
