Hey guy's, I was wondering how tall you need to be to adequately sit on a GS500 and touch the ground.....My girlfriend is just under 5 feet (probably around 4'11" or so) and she wants to get a bike....but i dont know that there is a street bike out there that's low enough for her to ride...  any thoughts?

I've seen a girl that was 4'11" ride a gsxr750, though it was modded and it had a mouse pad for the seat.

I think I saw the same one. Was it the yellow one on cycleforums.com? Man she looked like a little kid, especially if you saw the pic of her on it before the bar-risers where installed.

are about the lowest i know of off hand....stock

other bikes can be lowered but will have issues with geometry if the rider gets really agressive  nothing major but just a tiny consideration way out there...

slide the forks up in the trees(clamps)
shorter or longer dog bones depending on the linkage of the bike
EASY TO MAKE....2 pieces of steel bar and a drill bit...and a tape measure

Sooooo I shouldn't bring up the story of the Miget riding a YSR50 in FULL LEATHERS that i saw about 10 yrs ago....looked like a big man on a ZX11 from the rear...till i got close and passed him.

I had a short coworker who rode a cruiser-style Yamaha Virago 535.  It was pretty short at the seat.

Yeah, that's the one.  I was wrong, it's actually a 600 and it was a piece of plexiglas for the seat, but same diff.

I think there is a girl who is about that height on this site, lilbrat or mstrslilbrat or something.  maybe someone else can correct me.  I think she had the fromt lowered and the suspension.
I came here to kick @$$ or chew bubblegum...and it looks like I'm all out of bubblegum.

That's too cool. :thumb:

Makes me realize how tall I am at 5' 3"

According to my tables a 4' 11" woman is equivalent in inseam to a 5' 2" man.  To give you an idea, I can get most of my toes down on the '04 GS in the showroom.  I've been told that they drop up to an inch once they wear in.  Not sure how much foam is in the seat, but that's certainly an option.

I would agree with jiggersplat. If you want a sporty streetbike for someone who is 4'11" the Buell Blast comes to mind. I think you have a choice of two seat heights: 27.5 in. or 25.5 in. (low profile).

If you were thinking about the GS500 or something bigger, then that might be a bit of a stretch. I'm 5'2" and I have to tippy toe unless I lean to one side. Click HERE to read an old post of mine if you are interested in installing some "dog bones" to lower the seat height of some popular street bikes.
