So, back almost a year ago I decided to add a vance and hines supersport exhaust to my GS500.  At the same time I re-jetted the carbs with a K&N jet kit stage 2.  I also changed out the fuel lines since I basically destroyed them in the process of taking the tank off.  Well, The bike ran but was smoking and some other stuff.  At the time I became really busy and basically just let it sit.  Today, with new gaskets for the exhaust, new stock fuel lines, and a k&N air filter, I went back to work.  I did everything as instructed and when I went to fire the bike up even after charging, the battery was toast.  Threw my friends working and charged battery in the bike and still no go.  The bike would seem just about to fire but wouldn't.  Electrical seemed fine and you could smell rich fuel coming out the exhaust but it just wouldn't go.  Any chance that just sitting that long I need to do something???  Any other advice you guys might have???

Thanks, pretty much willing to try anything.  Want to get back on the road.

OK so you're trying to start it with 1 year old gas in the dead of winter ... I'd have been surprised if it did start ...
BTW smoke after exhaust system install is normal ... the paint they put on the pipe cures in heat and it smokes and stinks up the place while its doing that ... nothing wrong with that ... I'll toss the gas out, clean carbs with that yamaha carb cleaner thing and re start it ... Use a turkey baster and make a 3 to 1 mix of the carb cleaner and gas in a cup and squirt it in the carbs through the airbox ... make sure the idle svrew is turned completely out so your butterflies are closed .... else the gas will end up in the cylinder ... once the carbs are full with the stuff ... let it sit 24 hours while shaking it often ...
Drain and have a tank full of fresh gas and run 1-2 floats full of it through the carbs ... also put some oil in the cylinder through the spark plug hole, and turn the motor over without plugs in it ... just to get rid of excess oil. Then full charged battery, choke on and plugs back in and try it. That's what I do for bikes that sat ...
Cool.
