Can anyone verify if the Pearl Novelty Black color on the 97 GS has a small amount of dark blue metallic flake in the paint? My 97 looks black from any angle and in any light except for when you get within 1 foot from it. At that distance, you can see a dark blue metallic flake in it. It can only be either Pearl Novelty Black or Pearl Deep Blue. What do you guys think it is?

Yes it is Pearl Novelty Black with blue flakes.  I also have a 97.

Thanx. Would you happen to know if every year of Pearl Novelty Black had metellic flake? I mean was there ever a solid black for the GS with no metallic?

I thought that a 89 Black had more of a golden ish metal flakes in it and they are sure as hell very very fine texture, might be finer than a 97 ... However I have also long felt that that black is the color to have ... cos you take off the decals and they all are near about the same ...
Cool.

The black plastic on my orange/black bike has some blue flake to it.  The first time I noticed it, I though I was seeing things, but it looks really nice in the sun.

I think I'd prefer a non-metallic solid black finish. The blue metallic flakes do look good though.
