:dunno:

what would cause this bike to turn over and not crank? i know this has a very wide range of possibilities a couple of things come to mind . does this bike have a cdi or could the signal generator have gone bad what are some of the other options i think the problem is electrical in nature. thanks in advance

It's rare that I ever get my GS to start up right away in the morning without throwing it on a battery charger for 5 minutes. Is there nothing when you actually hit the ignition button or do you hear the starter kick in but no ignition?

Check the ignition kill switch

So the sparkplugs are wet with gas? If you haven't started the bike in a long time a couple things happen, the battery goes weak and the gas in the carbs turns to varnish and clogs the jets.
How about choke? Are you using the choke?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

no i haven't checked the plugs for fuel and i am using the choke. one time it did fire up the engine raced for about 15 seconds and died. (what i did was added a little transmission fluid to the cylinders to hopefully add to the compression

Try throwing the battery on a charger for a half hour and see what happens.

when was the last ride? you might want to put it on prime.  If it catches once for 15sec, that's a good sign..you might want to keep cranking couple more times, every time for like 2 seconds.

measure the battery voltage or use the car battery (not running) to see if it helps at all.

edit: remove plugs and crank, check for spark
