Anyone know where I can find such a beast for an 01 GS?

jessright

I google link for motorcycle battery shows this link:  http://www.motorcyclebatteriesusa.com/battery-makes.asp?battery=1   But i don't see one for a GS.  I am looking ar getting a new battery too, so I am curious as to what you find.

Anyone know of a good place to buy batteries online?

Thanks, Jess

Put a ES12BS sealed battery from walmart in sideways ... send the negative through the bottom of the battery box (and make sure the additional negative line you'll know hen you open it) isn't tight ... and bolt it in. Perfect fit of a great battery.
Cool.

If you take Srinath's advice, see KeLL's rerouting battery cable thread for more info.

I was trying to research what the experts say about side mounting batteries...  I know the new 988/999 Ducs have them side mounted,  but my paranoid mind wonders if it was just side mounted terminals.

Hers is a what Yuasa says:

< Can an AGM battery be installed in any position ?
<
< In most applications, batteries are installed in an upright position, but <in   some situations there is a need to tilt them (sometimes at very <extreme angles) or lay them completely flat on their backs.
<Yuasa typically supplies AGM batteries with separate acid packs that you <must fill (and charge) yourself. We do not recommend that this type of <battery be installed on it's side, or even an extreme angle, due to <possible leakage occuring.

<Fortunately, Yuasa offers many AGM batteries as "Factory Activated". <Generally this type of battery is safe to install in almost any direction. If <there is any question of a particular vehicle/battery/installation please <contact us for our specific recommendation before attempting to use <battery.

Here's the link:

I am wondering if the Walmart batteries are "Factory Activated".  Anyone know?  Even if they are not... it sounds like if activated properly (or sealed) they won't leak.

Anyone have a leak?    Also,  whats the longest you have had one in service?

Thanks,  J

no they aren't factory activated.  Factory activated are like those optima batteries that are totally sealed from the factory.

4 years on a eli 9 ... no leaks ... 2 years on a GS and no leaks ... My 89 of course has the battery box extended forward so it will take any battery sealed or not selaed right side up ... and I might put a lawn mower battery in it someday ...
Anyway ... Duc is where I first got that idea from. The 998 has the whole thing on the side ... not just terminals.
Cool.

in the pic of the GS650, the one with Ti pipes and GSX head had a sealed battery mounted underthe engine, behind  the oil pain on its side.
