Just broke my speedo cable. Any option beside replacement?

Due to dealer incompetence and my own sloth.  The dealer changed my tire (the 2+ months saga) and did not put the speedo gear on the wheel hub at a good angle.  So the cable was bent in an awkward angle on the ringed cable guide.

I should have adjusted it since it would have been a 5 minute job, but I was lazy.  Now the thing is broken.    The inner spring-looking thing, right at where the bend is.

Anybody ever fixed a broken cable?  I am thinking of crimping both pieces together and see if it would work.  Have to find a suitable crimp, though.

I have been riding around without a speedo for about the last 3000miles.
Just figure out what your RPM are at any given speed/gear and you should be fine.
I have my Fiance lead me down the freeway at 60,70&80mph, so I could see what my RPMs are in top gear.
I have started to get really good at aproximating my speed just by feel.
I have even driven by a number of cops with radar guns out there windows, and no problems.

Other than that, quit being lazy and just replace the cable!!

I know roughly how fast the bike is going without speedo.  I don't ride crazy anyway so I doubt if I would ge in trouble with the cops for speeding.  The other problem is that the odometer is not working anymore, so I cannot guage the gas level easily.   I can always go back to my Honda C70 stick-my-finger-in-the-hole-not-wet-means-need-gas method.  

Of course, the advantage is that I am not putting any miles on the bike. :lol:

If the outer is OK you can get your local cable guy to make you a new inner.  No, not the cable TV guy, the one that makes and repairs cables.
