They suck.  I have experiance with carbs... af ratios etc etc... and the DJ really does suck.  I have had problem after problem after problem after problem.  I initially wanted to do it on my own to avoid downtime....

5 weeks later...  and they STILL don't work. I've tried stock pilots, 40 pilots, mix screws everywhere from 1.5 turns to nearly 4 turns out.... and they still run like crap from 1500rpm-3-4000 rpm.

srinath's jetting is about 1000000x better.  They came back with a couple probs... nothing out of the norm... more of an issue with my pipes and filters and junk... but good grief... I have lost quite a bit of faith in DJ.

must be the bike because i have had no problems that werent easily fixed.  :dunno:
going fast isnt the problem, its the crashing and burning that hurts

I concur with you, se7enty7. When I purchased my GS a couple years ago the previous owner  had the DJ kit in it. The bike ran ok after about 3500, but below that it was terrible. After tinkering with many different settings I ended up using the DIY method. I will never buy DJ kit.

ok how did you make it work?  I've tried every combination, hell I've bought different pilots even....  floats are perfect, everything is 100% how it should be.

my rejet was fairly straight forward. the only changes i had to make after i followed the instructions per my filter and pipe set up were raising the needles.

next i added a pipe and 2970 at the same time, put in new 40 pilots, bigger mains and raised the needles another notch and i was good to go. its not perfect but i dont want to mess with it anymore just to get it to idle 200 rpm higher.

sorry to hear about your troubles. thats the reason my next bike WILL be fuel injected.

imo "getting fuel injection" isn't the answer to DJ sucking.  My srinath-formula carbs work fine.

ok.  let me explain further.

I have 2 sets of carbs
set A - dynojet.
set B - srinath formula.

set B work fine.  I can't get set A to work for crap.  I tried raising the needle, dropping the needle, 40 pilots, free flowing pipe, tried high flow filter, yadda yadda yadda... nothing.  Will not work for anything.

So... I reduce the variables... maybe it's the carb bodies themselves....  I put the DJ slides, needles, mains, etc into set B's bodies.... same EXACT thing... HORRIBLE bogging, fixed a little by mix screw but never eliminated.  Drivable... at best... not acceptable though.

What year bikes are you all talking about?  I suspect pre 2001.

Anyone rejet a 2001 with a pipe and K&N (either lunchbox or air box)?

Thanks,  Jess

mine is a pre-01.

I, personally, will give them none of my business.

The Buddha

See that whole numbering their jets with funky numbers and making drastically different needles just In my mind reeks of deception ...
Anyway Their whole angle is ... they start out with a jetting idea that you can do wihtout taking carbs off the bike ... waaaay back in the early 80's ... then came the air screws with brass caps and their idea was dead ... they continued their stupid idea though making for a set up that no one can copy from one to the other ... in terms of anyhting generic ... If you jetted with DJ and your friend jetted with DIY or anything else ... there is no way you 2 can talk and decide what is wrong with one or the other ... making for a monopoly ... atleast in terminology ... You'd go I have 118 mains and mine runs better and your friend goes ... I tried 118 and ran like crap ... what did I mess up ... anyway ... Someone has to sort out a DJ carb and decide how to fix any problems ... or atleast get close ... cos too many parameters at play ... each bike is going to need a few little adjustments ... but getting it close ...
Cool.

I thought that guy is sending me the fairings ... I might make a run to there .. to drop the things back with you ... in case you needed fitment help ... or ... besides I have this other ex colleague who I might have to come and see .. Heck I'd rather be there when somehting complicated is getting fitted. I'll get it then ...

heck yeah man! That'd be awesome!

I mean when I send you your fairings (the white ones) I'd throw the carbs in (well, lightly toss them.. lol) with the rest of the the stuff....  cause the tank and rear plastics would need to be packed seperately anyway...
