Rear Wheel Spin

I recently adjusted the tension on my chain (1 inch freeplay) and noticed something. The chain and rear sprocket looked fine. But I get some resistance when I spin the rear wheel in neutral (on centerstand, engine off). The resistance isn't evenly distributed throughout the rotation. Kinda like there's a rough spot where something is getting caught. Then, I tested to see how it would spin in 1st gear at idle. Pretty much the same thing. You can see how the wheel/chain slows down during part of the rotation. Any idea's what's the cause. Or is this normal? BTW, it was a few days till I noticed the chattering of the loose chain. Could this have caused some damage?

i cant speak with much knowledge about the motorcycle but i did a lot of bmxing when i was younger.  i noticed teh same thing.  the sprocket isnt perfectly round. this causes the tension to vary at different points.  so im guessing that is what you are noticing.

I have noticed a possibly related effect.  When I rotate my rear wheel, under the same conditions, the chain gets tighter at  one certain point in the rotation. I haven't found an explanation for it. :dunno:

Chains dont stretch evenly, you have an area could be only about 6 inches long, but its enough that when it hits the rear sprocket  it trys to ride up the teeth. to the rest of the chain it seems that the sproket is biger as teh slack is taken up briefly.

always check the chain tension at several places by turning the wheel to prevent you adjusting it too tight.

Could it be a bent brake rotor? that could explain the resistance in some points of the rotation.
