Balaclavas - the solution for long hair - no mo' dreadlocks

I have long hair.  I used to have a problem with getting instant dreadlocks if any of my hair ever snuck up from around my collar and was allowed to flap in the wind.

So I bought a balaclava and now I never have to worry about dreads.  I remember somebody a couple of months ago saying they had to cut their hair because it was a nuisance on the bike.  So now I have a warm balaclave for the winter and will get one of the CoolMax ones for the summer.

For all of you who are wondering what the heck a balaclava is, it one of those full head masks with the hole for your face.  No, it's not a middle-eastern pastery.

All of the winter ones are on sale for dirt cheap at REI.

It has also helped with my helmet falling forward from being just a tad too big.

That's Baklava: "a Near Eastern pastry made of many layers of paper-thin dough with a filling of ground nuts, baked and then drenched in a syrup of honey and sometimes rosewater." (Webster's New Universal Unabridged Dictionary)

Hmmm.....don't know about the rosewater, but otherwise they are sinfully delicious.

On the balaclavas, I have a couple minor problems with mine.  First, with my full-face helmet it almost seals too well, and then I get the fogging I don't otherwise get.  Second, I guess I left mine too long in the dryer, and now the face opening is a bit smallish, like should I stick my nose through it or not.  But still, I'll say for the temperatures slightly above where mine fogs, they are great.  I may have to try the bandana (also not edible!) thing.  Then I'll have to learn the Harley two-finger ("V") wave.

It's why I bought contact lenses.  I see better out glasses, but my eyes water less with contacts, and of course I don't have to bend my glasses getting them on through the viser in my full-face helmet.  I did seriously consider a crew cut, but my hair's not THAT long.  Interesting what some of us do to make riding easier.

Hey Geek ... I lived in Reading PA 02/92 to 5/93. Where exactly ...
I first lived in Fleetwood and later in Blandon.
BTW Backlava ... Tastes great toasted ... anything with sugar syrup tastes great IMHO ...
Also rosewater tastes good. We eat Rosepetals in honey or sugar syrup in India in various recipies ...

My god - Take Road to nowhere from Blandon, used to end in wyomissing ... I lived just off the road to nowhere and 222 ... My boss used to live in Wyomissing ... That was where I learned to ride the 600 ninja I owned then.

Amigo!  

Remind me what was the road to nowhere.  Brings back memories, but not quite complete.  I think I can picture where it ends, like maybe Penn Ave, and then winding through all the expensive houses in Wyomissing?  Or something else?  Does it go by the Berkshire mall?  It's not quite coming back to me now (a little Celine Dion there), and now I have cognitive dissonance!!!
