Quote from: skrap1r0nIt's tough to 'splain. I still have my first car that needs an engine and tranny. It's a Fiat X-19. I got it at 16. That was 14 years ago. they may be inanimate objects, but they have a special spot in my life and I am not willing to just replace it. That just doesn't feel right to me.

hah... my first car.... a 64 'vair... I rebuilt those carbs mroe time than I can count...

ugh.... who came up with the idea that the ONLY way to remove the left bank middle sparkplug is by removing the carbs... ugh

then my 73' 914... loved that damn car... got stolen/totalled

89 crx. While slow, it handled well.  stolen/totalled

95 grand am.  not as bad as it sounds... had the perf. package... decently fast, VERY comfortable

now I have a 98 200sx se-r... LOVE IT.  fast, handles well, everything a car should... I REALLY wish it had leather or something though

See Oddly I treat them very well and I care for it and it lasts and lasts and lasts with me wrenching and riding it ... Once its beyond the point of useable service its going to get tossed ... or hocked with full disclosure ... Yea that whole sentiment and memories thing ... OK that's what Pictures are for ... Funny thing the GS or hack any of the GS'es dont mean that much to me ...
Best ride For me was once many many years ago 2 months after I got married my first bike a ninja 600 and I took my wife on her first bike ride ...
Hocked the ninja, repeated that with the second bike I owned ... a nighthawk 650, then for the next instance of a memorable bike ride ... was with my vulcan 750 in 2000 or 01 ... I was just so depressed for some reason dont remember ... I went to fill gas in it, and I started the bike sunday ~10 am and planned to come back and spend the day laying about and she said ... Shall I also come ... and I go Ooooh OK .... We came back home past midnight ... fun ... A boring bike otherwise ... it was a cool bike due to its lack of doing anyhting wrong ... leaving you to just enjoy the rest of your senses ... BTW I sold it last year to a friend, and later helped him sell it to someone else ... didn't even blink ...
Cool.

you are absolutely right, srinath, treat them well(ding), but it's just rubber, metal, etc., ....well, i have a huge guilt complex for not treating it well, i mean, when i t was new, i was convinced this shiny red pile of plastic, steel, and other odd parts was going to be my key to getting laid, and not suprisingly, it wasn't, but it gave me a chance to experience some pretty amazing things alone, like i piled a bunch of shaZam! on it and drove a gs to california, via canada, i drove up to nyc(scary with saddlebags, tank bags and a back pack, you can imagine how well it handled), to ontario, to LA, and back to GA. not as profound an experience as kerouac, pirsig, et. al. would like us "disaffected youth" to believe, but it was still something, and it's hard to just let even something material go, when it didn't let you down.. it's corny, but that bike really didn't. it's not as pathetic as it seems, it's more like i feel like reconstituting it is a part of maturity or something. anyway, i fully understand what it is, but sometimes, what something represents is important as well, art as something unto itself has become the domain of specialists, so that something such as a mechanic must be considered a "technical trade". well, i'll take my cue for those dorky french students from may '68, and try to take art back from mainsteam culture anyway i  can, and making this trashy pile of molecules run is what i choose...you can tell i'm a bit drunk, can't you,,,

Oh well I got the first part, the second part was clear over my head ... Anyway ... I can rebuild them just fine and I have ... but if it is un rebuildable ... like I can swap the motor, I can fix many of its problems ... but say its run over by a truck ... I'd not even blink ... Take the $$$ hopefully there is $$ and buy some else ... maybe another GS ... But still ...
Cool.

it's over my head too...damn bowmore scotch...

The front of the frame is twisted. The rest of the bike was in good condition, with the exeption of the wiring harness. If I can locate a frame, I can swap it all over and be on the road again.

i don't know how bad you mean by twisted, i assume you already looked into repairing it, but i took mine to GMD computrac, and they did a great job on it, but mine was mostly the subframe. anyway, just a thought.

skrap1r0n

I have looked into it and they couldn't gurantee frame integrity. It's farily subtle, yet severe. If you look down the length of the bike, it's twisted, The front wheel and back wheel are on different planes, not in line.

hey I had a twisted frame, whihc I carried around for 3 years, and traded to werase and he had it for like a week before spotting that it was twisted ... it was pretty hard to spot it ... which is our line of defence for carting it about ... anyway ... we stripped it off all its essentials and tossed it ... OK selling it far scrap may have netted up to like $5 ... but we didn't bother ... Yup its toast ... Those GMC guys ... maybe they are good but ... well its too much money for doing that anyway ...
