The filter is $33 at Usdieselparts.com, shipping was free when I got it last year ... the jet kit is a nightmare ... Individual jets are ~ $15-18 at your bike store ... so for $50 or so ... much better set of parts to work with.
Cool.

ooo i was asking if anyone knows if it will work on an 04, sorry for any confusion
-Kevin

EDub

does anyone know if it will fit the 04?
-Kevin

buy it, put it on, it will fit.  Its not a hard concept.  These bikes have changed very little ever since 89.  Just because it has fairing doesnt mean it needs somthing different than a nonfaired bike. Im sorry to sound like this but you have to have some common sense.

The Buddha

They changed the carbs in 01 and modified it more in 04 ... They went from 33 to 34 mm and from a 2 jet to a 3 jet carb ... entirely different ... You sure the air box side is the same diamater ...
Cool.

just get one try it on...if it doesn't fit, put it on ebay and make some quick bucks...no big deal
My hunch was right...Pandy is the biggest Post Whore!

The Buddha

Well there is an even better idea ... Measure it ... diamater and spacing ... diameter - vertical and horizontal are diffrent ... average them out ... and check against the specs of the filter on K&N's site ...
In any case someone has to have fitted or tried it I thought ...
Cool.

it says on the usdiesel website that it can stretch an additional 1.5mm to fit other applications. since we're only talking about a 1mm difference in the carbs from the old style to the new ones, I think you'll be ok, just have to wrestle a little more to get it on there.

The RU 2970 is a stretch for the 89-00 carb ... I had to wrestle with it to get on one carb I was working on ... The other thing is ... 1 mm diffrence in the carb dia is not the outside dia of the filter side ... its the ID at the butterfly ... Keihein 33's have a 55 mm air filter mouth, the GS has 63 or so ...  In any case ... Lets see ... might fit ... and we'll all know ... I measured up and order some for my 900 eliminator  ... fit nice ... best way to IMHO ... but ...

I have an '04 and I ordered the filter... I figured if it doesn't fit I can sell or trade it...

When it comes in I'll let you know if it fits or if it's on ebay... Hopefully lightning strikes twice and I make some cash off the deal..

Does anybody have the part numbers for the jets? I'm probably going to have a local shop jet the carbs and dyno tune it but want I to get a head start on parts... Dyno tuning is $70 an hour it would be nice to get it right the first time..

Hey.. I need your address for that wileyco flange... send me a PM..

Well it fits the '04 500F model.... It was actually a little loose and slipped right on and the clamps hold it well...

Problems? There's a vacuum line that comes out of the top of the motor and blows air into the back of the factory air box... What should I do with it?

Do you think there's any harm in connecting the airbox drain tube to the vent tube of the carb's upper T fitting? It seems like they both serve the same function.

Any suggestions?

you can buy a small K&N breather filter....

Well, it appears to blow air into the filter housing not sure how well it would work out putting a filter on it... I was thinking about mounting a fitting to the backside of the K&N..

D-Day

Just buy a longer piece of tubing and route it all the way to the back of the bike.  If you want to get fancy, put it into a catch can on the back of the bike with a filter out of the catch can.
