You want these ... I'll make a lot for $10 each ... they'd be stainless 14 guage ...  I didn't even look at this thread till now ... else I'd have posted sooner ... BTW they fit on the axle bolt ... I just dont like that whole idea ... I'll try and see if there is a better place ... How do you see your adjuster marks ...
Cool.

Dom

How much would you charge me to do the license plate wrinkle effet?

stefman722

Hey stevemac12073,

You think you could take a picture from the rear end? like so you could see the WHOLE rear of the bike? And i do like it alot. I want to buy one right now. Not wait. lol. So srinath, if you would make them, i want it before the end of april. lol.

I might be interested Srinath.  It should go on the exhaust side so its not so visable and blends in with the bike more, in my opinion anyhow.

Jake D

I'd buy a Srinath one for $10.

Then that undertail would look sweet.

To keep your license plate from wrinkling like that, one way to give it a nice smooth bend is to duct tape one side down on a one gallon paint or coffee can and roll it on the carpet.  I tried it with an old plate and it worked just like I though it would.   :thumb:

I'd buy one also...

The Buddha

I'll make one tommorow ... I'd prefer flat and right side up, though flat and vertical is also OK ... that curve and that extra length wont work ... I am going to use some stainless 14 guage ... extra length will vibrate like hell ... They had to have it bent and welded and crap because of that ... I'll show it in a day or 2... Then decide. As usual its going to be fitted and fabbed on a GS ... so will fit ... but of course I have no sense or what looks nice and what doesn't so You decide.
Cool.

scratch me off the list, my friend is a cop and he said a sideways tag would get my sorry ass pulled over

The Buddha

You didn't know that ... ??? OK ... Yea Illegal as heck ... they wanna be able to see the tag no matter what ... if they're behind you and those jesse james bikes with fat ass tires and a tag that wont be seen if you're off to the other side cos its obscured by the tire ... yup ... definite ticket ... I got one for a dirty licence plate cover last year ...
Cool.

even if they could see it i think id get a ticket cause its hard to read sideways so lets say i were to flee a cop they wouldnt easily be able to read my tag in such a short amount of time, perhaps that is their reasoning

Dom

Vertical is ok as long as it's on the rear fender and not obscured, like in the case of dual-sport/enduros where if you place it horizontially it could get ripped off easily.

nothing about sideways, curved/bent round, might be considered Obscured

OK one more issue ...
That long extension and bent plate holder ... they have made it far too thick ... has to be due to length ... and the length will also make it bend into the wheel more easily ... in case you crash ... and it might tear up the wheel ... You really want thin and small and not sticking out into the wheel part ... I would like to put it on the muffler side ... cos its inherently protected by the muffler ... I also swapped my axle bolt ... nut goes under the muffler now on my bikes ... cos if you crash and that gets ground up ... you'll never get it off ... this way the muffler will save it a bit ... and dont think i haven't used it as such either ...
As for illegal issues ... The codes were written many many years ago ... long before some chowder head decided licence plates at to be fitted near the wheel cos otherwise it ruins the clean looks of the back end ... I think it even looks uglier on the side ... JUST IMHO ... so they have either passed amendments or are doing so in most states ... you might get a defective equipment ticket ... though I got a obscuring plate ticket ...
Cool.

Ok, I took a pic so maybe Srinath could take a look and tell me if this would work...  Could I relocate my plate using the bolt that comes out of the back of the swingarm, under the exhaust, and screw the plate directly onto the back of the swingarm with the nut??

stefman722

Srinath, you said tomorrow, and tomorrow is today hahaha. Whats the progress?

i would not mount it with that one bolt even if you could.  you run the risk of it slipping and spinning down into rotating parts.  could be ugly.
