I'm going to be buying either the Xena XH14 or XH15 disc lock this week. Both are the same types of locks, but have different fitting dimensions for different bikes. Xena offers a fitting guide but it's offline right now. I found the dimensions here. Was thinking someone who knew the front disc real well on the GS could look at that guide and know which lock to go with. Can anyone offer some help?

To be honest I would avoid a disc lock period.  First, if someone wants your bike, disc lock or not, they're going to get it.  Also, even the yellow version isn't blatantly visible enough to detract thiefs or idiots.  The alarms on the two I owned worked sporadically at best.  One would start going off as soon as it was locked and the other took a good roll to get it going.

Lastly....wait until the time when you forget to take it off and start driving with it on.  (Trust me, it's inevitable)  You'll hear a pleasant little cracking noise as it smashes the bejeazus out of your fender.  Then you'll curse the very day you bought it!

This is just my opinion, YMMV!

From http://www.xenasecurityusa.com/XENA-Specs.pdf , it looks like the main distance is that the X*14 models will span 46mm, while the X*15 models will span 62mm.  I think that both are bigger than the GS needs, so either will probably work.  I can take a measure later.

It's actually just one of a couple things I am doing to protect my bike and from a past post I asked about bike security, it seems like there are a fair amount of people recommending it along with other things like an alarm and cover.

So that being the case, does anyone know of the right lock to get based on the fitting dimensions I posted above?

Thanx. :thumb: I'm gonna try the 14 then. Would still appreciate it if you could take those measurements. I'd do it myself, but I wont have access to my bike for the next 2 days. :(

Yeah...sorry my post wasn't very constructive or helpful.  I just never liked the product  :)

Good luck!

I mentioned it, but I haven't bought it.  It seemed like a good combination of alarm and lock, in one small package.  But I can't speak to its quality.

Also, I understand that sooner or later, I screw-up just about everything at-least once(*).   That might include trying to ride off with the disk lock on the bike.

Did you get one of these? Did it work out? Pro's? Con's? I was looking at these, but I'm also considering a couple other things...

I love my Xena disk lock.

The alarm probably wont stop a thief but its worth its weight in gold for keeping curious people wo like to touch other peoples bikes at bay.

As for forgetting to take the lock off.

I actually put the little bag the lock came with onto my handle bars to remind me not to ride off with it on.  (I'll take a pic)

Plus the xena alarm fires into action if the bike is started with it still on.

I've got one that I use regularly, but I don't remember exactly which model it is. The 14mm locking pin models work fine. I can't say I'm totally happy with the product because it doesn't seem to work consistently. Sometimes it'll be twitchy as hell, sometimes it won't go off even if someone moves the bars. On the other hand, I haven't ever forgotten about it and it'll keep someone from rolling the bike away. I wouldn't use it as a sole means of security on a pricey bike or in a bad area, but GS500s get stolen very rarely and something like a disc lock will deter the casual thief.
