Am I the only one who thinks of the "Shadows" ships from "Babylon 5" everytime I see Srinath's Bars?  Or is it from another Sci-Fi series?

Whaaaaaaat ... not a clue ... I should change it I suppose ... over a year ... Maybe I should put clip on's there ... Or a set of the savage bars I am secretly (Not so) secretly working on ...
Cool.

No don't change it!  It has that cool, eerie look!  I thought it was by design.

Geek, you have got the right show and ships, but I don't see it in Srinath's avatar.

I think his bars look more like a super hero emblem of sorts.

Speaking of bars, I saw a bunch of cruisers yesterday with the "Look at my arm pits" handlebars. The suckers must have been 2 1/2 feet in the air above the mounts. The bikes were parked outside a "private club" in Pendleton, SC. Beautiful day for riding rather than drinking and then getting on your bike.  :nono:

Wait Doug, I think I saw your Avatar before too!  Maybe it was a "Dr. Who" scene of some space wreckage.  Now there was a show!  I remember an episode where I was thinking, they're using pocket multimeters and calling them communicators!

Now you are talking about premium Sci-Fi when it comes to Dr. Who. My kids were raised with it and whenever a new friend seems to stick around long enough, we introduce them to the Doctor.

Of late though, my fave has been Farscape. When it was cancelled, Sci-Fi and Direct TV nearly lost me as a subscriber.

Nay, kind sir, my avatar is a photo of the result of exceeding the maximum rpm of a GS starter motor. The cause was a seized-to-the-crankshaft starter clutch while the previous owner was doing about 40 mph. Not knowing the gear he was in, we can only estimate the poor little motor was spinning "really fast" prior to death.  This in turn lead to a complete seizing of the motor and subsequent listing on ebay. I won the auction at $416 and drove to Nashville to pick it up just prior to Thanksgiving 2003.

There is nothing wrong with the point slope equation either!  :thumb:

Geek,

You are not the only one. The first time I saw his avatar I couldn't figure out what it was but those 'shadow ships' were really strong on my list of could be's 'til I read a little more.  :)

I personally was going to start a push for what I call the "modified point-slope" form, since it more resembles the linear approximation.  So for a line through (X1,Y1) with slope M, we should get into the habit of writing

Y=Y1+M(X-X1).

Your Dr. Who experience is similar to mine, as far as evangelizing anyone who hung around for long.  My #2/3 (Borg Designation) sister knitted me a scarf one year, the Salvation Army store had a good coat,  and I was Dr. Who for a couple halloweens after that.  The hat I admit was a very rough approximation.

We haven't had cable for an eternity.  I'd say I'm more productive, but with stuff like this forum it hasn't helped.  I do wish I had the Sci-Fi channel though.

Dandy: Thanks for assuring me I'm not the only one seeing stuff in Srinath's pic.

My Favorite sci fi series ... Dont laugh ... Firefly ... yup ... all 3 episodes of it ... Somehitng about space age barbarians totally speaks to me ... as is that whole primitive rickety old little ship with a resourceful crew who dont fear anything and mod the crap out of their ship with scrap yard parts off anyhting and everything ... yes I got all that from the 3 episodes ... Sound familiar ???
Cool.

Firefly! My oldest son bought the entire run in a DVD boxset. You will be pleased to know there are 14 episodes (and rumors of a movie).

I never heard of it and was not impressed with it initially. I thought the dialog was bad and didn't get it at all until one episode.  The whole thing is essentially post American Civil War Again set 500 years in the future. "The Second Post-Antebellum in Space" could have been an alternate title.

After realizing that, it all fell into place. Cowboys, hicks, soldiers, oppressive government, barbarians, beautiful sexy women, etc. Like Farscape, any progressive storyline is doomed to die off on TV. Other than Star Trek, and that didn't fly to begin with, progressive stories like Firefly, Farscape, X-files, etc. have an asymptotic struggle until cancellation.
