any one split a stock can down the middle to see what it looks like inside?

Not down the middle but I cut the back end off ...
The can has ~ 4-5 inches of nothing and then it has a round plate that blocks it off literally except for 2 holes about dime sized in that plate. A pipe appeard to be inserted into the holes ... I stuck a screw driver in the holes and 4 inches or so in front it seemed to hit a second plate. Possibly that plate has a single hole in center with dime sized pipe from the outlet. Its a mechanical baffle that squeezes the exhaust into the 2 holes, and then forces them to double back to enter that second dime sized hole to the open air. Maybe I should cut the other end too and put a pic up .... I try not to do stupid shaZam! like that cos I dont want to break the saw blades for my welder ... I dont want him to have extra down time because I'm running around his shop cutting up useless shaZam! ...
Cool.

Srinath,

That explains more vividly why they are so quiet, and why people get better performance from replacing them and rejetting.  But I have to admit I like it quiet.  Little kids and neighbors and all that.

OK short of entirely taking the insides out I doubt you can make it higher flow. Now an empty can will be high flow but will be really unpleasant and not just in volume ... you want the can to sorta Brrrrruuuup brrrrupppp ... that will more likely be Dooom dooom doooom ... like a series of hard edged explosions instead of soft starting and building and fading explosions ... I know cos I have a can that got no insides that I have tried ... its pathetic ...

Most aftermarket cans have a perforated tube in the center wrapped tightly with fiberglass packing material (some use stainless steel wool) then enclosed with the other sleeve. Nothing fancy. Bikes without packing in the cans are obnoxiously loud. If you want, I have some pics that I can post of a couple of M4 and Yosh cans that I took apart.

I'd like to see the pictures,  I'm planning on putting a custom pipe together (and if it's good I may sell a couple)

Wouldn't an air cut-off tool slice right through it?

I will try to remember to find the pics tonight and post them tomorrow.

Here are a couple of pics of a M4 can and a Yosh RS3 Zyclone. The Yosh was on my TLR when I was rear ended, hence the damage. Basically, the inner baffle has a press fit on the end caps and the outer sleeve is riveted to the end caps, securing the assembly together. If needed, I can take more pics of the M4 can since I still have a couple of them but I have since sold the Yosh system.
