Why the obsession with speed?

Teary eyed in a tuck looking over the tach wfo on a peaky two stroke coming on the pipe.  

what other kind of religion is there?  My heart beats faster just thinking about it.  I don't race on the street.

Well, I probably won't ever get my TL up to its limits (even at the track), but every day I marvel at the glorious engineering Suzuki put into it to enable the bike to go 160mph.  

Its not the top speed, but the caliber of bike required to handle at that speed, and the way that positively effects the bike all the time (ie, strong brakes, fully adjustable suspension, steering dampener, stiff chassis, torque everywhere in the power band).
