Are you a donor?

I recently filled out the card that comes with the tax booklet when you do your own taxes as well as declared myself a donor on my drivers license.  I am happy to be a possible life-saver to someone who may need a new heart, kidney, etc.
My only stipulation was that no one gets my eyes.

Are you all donors? If not, would you mind telling your reasons? I just wonder why many people do not wish to donate parts of themselves that they won't need when they're gone.  :dunno:

they don't call it a donorcycle for nothing.

I'm a donor... despite the rumors I've heard saying that rich, old, fat, alcholic men always elbow their way to the front of the line.

Suzuki10, it intrigues me that you offered every part of your body except for your eyes.  I excluded my pee pee from my offerings for the sake of the absurd.  But it sounds like yours is for different reasons.  Would you mind expounding?

SuZuki10

OH My Gosh, I never thought about that!! When people want a sex change operation, they must use "donated parts"  Wow that is so disgusting to think about.  I think you made a good move by opting to keep it.  If you really loved your pee pee you would let it go on living after you're gone though.  I mean why should it have to go just because you did?  ok sorry ...

To answer your question:  I chose to keep my eyes because when I die I hope to go to heaven and I am afraid if I donate my eyes I won't be able to see it.  It's something you wait your whole life to see...the lights, the gates, God... I don't know just a personal thought I guess.

Very interesting perspective Amanda. :)

I'm a donor.  They really push it when you get your motorcycle license, heh.

As long as I can have a funeral great. I honestly dont wanna be buried in the ground (as ive previously discussed with my mom when I started riding, GRR) but if I can give something of mine to save a life I will GLADLY do it. If I could do it NOW and still live a healthy and happy life myself I will do it. I dont drink, dont smoke, never tried ANY drugs at all, im boring and healthy, which is good for the people that eat...err...get my parts implanted.

I always have been, and my wife never will be.  She is a cancer survivor who has had many surgeries in the past and feels that her body has had anough taken from it.

I respect her decision and she respects mine.

That's interesting. Is she able to be a donor? I'm also a cancer survivor, but I'm unable to be a donor. I can't give blood or anything like that. I guess the idea is a higher risk of a failing/cancerous donation even though I've been in remission and off treatment for years... I would be a donor if it were allowable...

yea im a donor.  i dont want to be buried either.  that also goes along with my claustrophobia(sp).  but i dont remember seeing any option for keeping certain body parts...

I am, although I don't know what they will be able to use when i am just a splat on the road.  being a donor and having O- blood it's like having a big bullseye on my back everyone tries to get me.

Dom

I'm not sure if a successful pee pee transplant has been performed but it got me to wondering how many times can an organ be transplanted from host to host?  For instance: if Dirk Diggler died and I recieved his member and I enjoyed it for a long time could it then be transplanted to a new host?  Theoretically it could live on forever and ever since the cells are continually renewed, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Just hypothesizing...but Dirk Diggler doesn't have anything on me anyway.  ;)

Daniely

oo O blood, gimmie gimmie my stock is runnin low man.

Yup, I'm on the national database plus carry the card, they are welcome to anything usable. The wife said not my eyes but I over-ruled that, can't see how they will be any use to me (no pun intended) I also give blood regularly, enlightened self-interest realy, I rekon as a biker I'm quite likely to need some sometime.
If there's anything left I'd like the burning longship treatment but I suppose it'll be a box at the local crematorium.
Some of the southern European countries have the legel assumption that everyone is a donor unless they opt-out whereas we, in UK, have to opt-in. I think the former is better, any thoughts on that ? ?

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

Dom

I would support that.  I think that anyone who wouldn't support it has some narcissistic issues.  Not to harsh on you Suzuki10 but you really can't believe that you're eyes will be very effective in heaven after they are eaten away by worms, do you?

ConanLloyd

Treybrand~

She can donate her eyes and a few other organs as her cancer was Ovarian.  Like you, she cannot donate blood.

I feel that once I'm dead, my body is just a carbon-based container. If someone else's life can be improved by that container being cut up and reused, I'm all for it. I'm certainly not using it anymore. If I'm cremated, no one will be able to tell the difference.

If you are a donor, make sure that your loved ones know. I've been told that  what your licence says it isn't as important if your relatives object to it. If you're not, then I hope you have a reason. This this is too important of a decision to be ignored whether you are a motorcycle rider or not.

weaselnoze

another thing i was thinking about.  im already a donor as i previously stated. i know that they give my heart to someone who needs one, my liver to someone etc.  but what about the stuff that cant be transplanted.  like your eyes.  they cant give it to someone who lost an eye... i have no problem with donating organs to save lives, but are they gonna use my body for things that i dont believe in, like stem cell research?

not if you die in a firey motorcycle crash,

I use to give blood, but got tired of being stuck by inept vampires.

Pretty damn sad when 2 phlebotomist cant hit  a huge vein but i can.
