Lag between throttle and actual movement

When twisting the throttle there is a noticable lag between when I twist and the bikes reaction. Is this normal? I assume its not, is there anyway to fix this or the reason for it?

Try cleaning out the carbs.  If the bike has been sitting for a while, the jets can get clogged with byproducts from old gas.

Could be just the adjuster screw on the throttle grip needs adjusting :)

Mine  does the same thing. Its a 95 that only had 3800 miles on it when I bought it 2 months ago, so I imagine it sat quite a bit. I've put another 1400 miles on it since then, though and overall it is running much better than when I first got it.

The lack of response occurs at lower rpms (<6k).  Twist the throttle an it remains "flat" for maybe half a second then starts accelerating.  It has a KN air filter. I don't know if it was rejetted. The plugs indicated the bike wasn't running too radically lean. It does suffer from slight fuel starvation at more aggressive throttling.

I grew acustomed to inline 4s, so maybe this is normal for twins?

It should pick up pretty quickly once the throttle is opened, remember more torque in a twin than a "four". But in saying that, my bike was in the shop for 5 weeks until today and it is taking a bit of time to loosen up.
Also, set the fuel tap to reserve or pri and see if that cures the problem, may be just some dirt in the fuel line.
Hope this helps!

Ah, well that makes sense, i've been keeping the RPM's really low because the manual says to keep them below 5,000 while you are breaking it in.
