I read this article the other day about 250 cc race bikes. They looked bad ass but where small enough that a novice could control one. Do ya'll know of a place I could find some of these? Thanks.

europe or your local aprillia dealer might be able to get ya one. racers chime in
going fast isnt the problem, its the crashing and burning that hurts

Isn't it kinda funny how, as bikers, we tend to come full circle? I mean, most people probably start out on a small bike and then start moving up to bigger, quicker, faster. Then one day you start longing for those simple little FUN machines of youth. Big, quick, fast machines can make your heart pound in your throat but nothing can make you laugh like a silly little kid as well as a small bore little bike...like a Baby GS! Or an Aprilia 250 or 450, or a Ninja 250 or even the tiny Honda Rebel. God, I wish I could ride like I could in the old days. Lovin' my "make me laugh" Baby GS500 and this forum.

If you are referring to a 2-stroke 250, they will scream on the track! A 125 puts out around 40hp and only weighs 140 pounds. Not sure about the numbers on a 250.

I have seen a couple of 2-smoke street Aprilia 250's around here.

I would not bother with a 4-stoke 250.
Common sense in not very common.

Here's a quick link on the 450...  I'd love to see it in the U.S., but I doubt it.  I can't stand the 'bigger is better' mentality!

As for the 2 stoke, were you thinking of something like this?

I'd love to get a 125 to race on, but it seems like every year there are fewer and fewer of them :guns:

the european Honda Vtr 250 from 1998 or so to 2003 is a sweet bike.  wish they made it here.
I need a bike.

They sold a VTR250 in the USA for a few years..'88-'89 I think. At any rate, when we got the White Owl we almost bought one that was white and blue. It was a real sharp bike and I wish I'd gotten it now just because it seems to be pretty rare. Supposed to perform about like the Ninja 250 which is a real neat little scutter in it's own right. Love the Baby GS and the forum.

You can still order a race RS250 Aprilia in the U.S. Strictly for racing.

You'll want to avoid the '88 VTR250 because with that brake disk centered inside the rim hub, it rusts horribly. They rectified it with the later year models by mounting it conventionally. Still, not a bad bike, with the more usable low-end grunt of a v-twin, more ideally suited to around town riding, allowing the newb to concetrate more on form and less on throttle. Not as powerful as a 250 Ninja, and quite a bit heavier, they don't handle as well. They are quite rare, now, but not highly sought after.

50cc racing is becoming pretty popular amongst adults.

For the most part the 250s which are Two strokes have been illegal out here since 89.  Now if you are close to cali, there is actually a place that imports them, also if you have military friends overseas then can ship them out to you and you can make it street legal.  A NSR250 over in Japan will cost you about $1800 (is what my hubby paid for his) and to ship the bike in parts will cost you about $400-$500.  Not to bad.  Put the bike back together, and take all the shipping stubs with you, call it a hand made bike.  The DMV will have to inspect it, but then they should be able to hand to you a title, and you should be able to register it.

Isn't it somewhat ironic that he isn't wearing a helmet, but is wearing a hat with the Arai logo on it?

I wonder if thats some new generation of compact helmets?

Have you watched the MotoGP?  Lap times of top 250cc riders were better than quite a few of the liter bike cousins.  Those things are very fast.

That's a good one, good year.

2-stroke 250's make 55hp ala '90's Yamaha TZ250s.
