Holes in the back of the muffler???

hey,, i see you guys talking about drilling holes in the back of your muffler and it makes it louder??? i don't think soo?? Or for mine it nevered... I put 7 holes 1/4 bit. Any suggestions?? Without buying a slip-on

Yea drill it with like a 12 inch long drill and go through to the second layer of the baffle ... in any case its still anaemic sounding ... Sitting on the bike ... you hear normal valve train noise ... its not loud enough ... You should be able to hear the head noises if somehting is wrong ... but not other wise ...

Hello, I want to hear louder my baby too. But I think my exhaust is differente than yours. You are talking about holes in the back, but mine has a kind of cover that is "joined" (I don't know how you call joining two metal parts with the "joiner" machine, as exhaust with tubes). Should i cut it off and then make the holes? Anyone have photos?

typically the holes in a stock exhaust are VERY restrictive.  Even if you drill enough to eliminate the backpressure, it's still going to sound like crap.

I compare it to a ricer civic with a coffee can bumblebee muffler



A real exhaust isn't that expensive..  srinath looks like he's selling flanges and you can get a can for cheap on ebay.

not only will it sound like crap, but even IF you drilled enough to eliminate some backpressure, you will also need to jet it to really feel any power.

What Srinath means is:

There is more to the muffler than the end that you drilled.  there is another baffle you must drill through to make much difference.  But it is deep inside the muffler.  Like 12 inches.  Otherwise, it won't be louder, much louder anyway.  And as a result, you'll hear mostly engine noise, like valves and whatnot, clicking away, instead of that "sexy whhhhhhhhhawwwwwww. . ." that some people with "drilled" mufflers claim to love so much.

Yea 12 inch long drills ... available at HD and lowes ... a good 1/2 dozen holes drilled all the way into the inner baffle and you will end up with louder and more flow ... Now big difference between loud and pleasantly loud ...  metal baffles and holes make for a lot of various noises ... and not enough of the good noises ... a real can, any can will sound nice Actually that's about the best thing about them ... they do tune it for note  :lol: ... Of course drill it and you will have to rejet ... With wileyco and flange method ... you can cut off flow enough to not rejet ... Really noise and flow are 2 different things ... my choked flange which flows a lot less than a non choker ... is noisier, and I made baffles for people (se7enty7 and who else I forget - gavin ?? ) which cut noise down, but not affect flow much ...  Just that I have to do it by ear and seat of pants ... I cant say this does this and that does that ... but my experiments with butt dyno and ear dyno tells me this and that ...
