Get a Yamaha RD350 or RD400.  These are two stroke pocket rockets.
Narrow power bands and a pisser to ride.  Giant killers of their days.   They could leave a Harley in the dust.
2002 GS500
2004 V-Strom 650
is it time to check the valves?
2004 KLR250.

When I was a teenager I used to lust after an RZ350. Not sure how hard it would be to find parts but I've seen them on ebay.

Have you tried the GS500E?  Mine wasn't too expensive and, for a vintage bike, it is pretty easy to find parts!
I came here to kick @$$ or chew bubblegum...and it looks like I'm all out of bubblegum.

um ... i guess your joking right? I own a gs500e  . I would like to own a couple more bikes. I love my GS and it gets all the money but I would love to have even older bikes aswell. I would hardly say a gs500 would be a vintage bike.  give it maybe 10 more years?

maybe you mean gs550?

I don't know... 1989?  Seems kind of old to me.  I constantly feel like I'm restoring some old rust bucket!  Of course I'm kidding... but in a funny because it is kind of true way.

Find a Honda 350 or 360 twin. I've got a 71 and that little sucker runs sweet. Handles pretty good, even with my fat ass on it. Has 13000 miles on it, and it pulls to the 9200 redline like there's no tomorrow.

Also have a 74 XS650. Second one i've owned. Another fun bike. Not the fastest or the smoothest, but fun none the less.
1990 GS500, 1979 GS850, 1974 TX650, 1972 BMW R/75/5, 1972 Triumph chopper. All in various stages of repair.

Can't go wrong with old Honda twins (I bought two 1969's for $350).  CB/CL 175-350.  Great bikes..no exceptions.

RD two strokes...ohhhhhhh  lust is a sin....  if you like water cooling go with an RZ but some would argue that's not vintage.  Put an FZ front end on it, some pipes...

The Kawi GPZ's are too cool but again, vintage?  (somewhere there's a GPZ750 Turbo waiting for you)

I want a GS1150 dragbike....

Watch yourself with the vintage bug..  You said exactly what I said before I got my Bultaco and my wallet has never been the same.  It's a sickness.

I second that GPZ 550 vote.  My big brother used to have one and I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.

Vintage enough.

Or get a CBX?   Just kidding.

i have a bike i acquired from a family member. i think it is a 79 suzuki 550. it sat outside for a while. probably needs a hell of a lot of work. i'm probably going to end up junking it, but if anybody wants i'd be glad to get rid of it. take it for free. you can even have the weeds attached to it and the nice rusty tank. it is in my garage now. he said it was running when he stuck it behind his shed, but i think it was back there quite a while. even if you don't get it running you can use it as a great paper weight.

I'm half finished restoring a '70 Hodaka Ace 100 I got for FREE! I think I'll have $800 in it when it's done. That cheap enough for you? Parts are easy to get for these bikes at www.strictlyhodaka.com and you can pick up restorable bikes on ebay for a couple hundred bux.

Here's my frame, fresh from powdercoat:

Is that a motorcross bike or a flat tracker (that Hodaka)?

I already have a sickness, haha . while im looking for a 60's-70s volvo I already own a 84 volvo 244, ofcourse my gs500e aswell. I am into old cars and bikes. they are just more apealing to me than anything out there new. i mean its cool and all some dude can show off his 20k ducatti to me when he pulls up. But if I pull up in a old motoguzi or even a vintage ducatti or hell any vintage bike that would just scream ive got style and you paid to much for a bike. lol .... but some could argue because with old cars and bikes comes repairs and hard to find parts. so your wallet is affected aswell.

i know this 82 kz550 wouldnt be vintage but still a cool bike at the right price. dont worry I will be buying as many as I can afford. I have an addiction . you should see my house... my roomates and I have tons of cars. 96 jimmey, 92 blazer, 83 S10, 73 Chevelle SS conversion, 84 volvo 244 (in the middle of turbo project), 88 ford ranger, and my GS500E. Im going for a couple more bikes and a couple more cars. right now looking for a 63/64 impala at the right price and a 70's volvo 145.

yea i go broke, if you were wondering lol but its worth it all.

Jake - it's sort of a mini dual purpose bike. 100cc two stroke with lights. They were pretty respectable little off roaders in their time - lots of them were converted to desert racers, trials bikes, and trail rides. I'm trying to get mine titled so I can ride it on the street. A buddy of mine has 16 acres of land I can make mud pits and jumps on too!

Jah - I'm in Portsmouth. About an hour south of you. I'm in Richmond every other month delivering magazines.
