ok, the bike starts easily and idles well. when i had it apart i inspected the carbs as per the clymer instructions and found them in (i think) good shape all around.

the only change since when i put it down and now is that i put a k&n filter on it. it had NO filter before (cheap previous owner). so i would think having a filter would make it run better assuming stock jetting?

but now it runs like junk. at partial throttle it is best. and when reved up the rpms fall very slowly, thending to hang around 4k or so.

basically i am sad because it is not really fun or good to ride it in this condition.

What should i do? mail my carbs to srinath? take them apart again myself? or take it down to the local suzuki speed shop?

the speed shop is fun to go to (they had four stretched brag busa's ouside last time i was there) but i'm sure it is the most expensive option.

please help as i am carb-retarded

The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

It's not a good idea to run without filter.

All kinds of dirt will enter the engine:
- Carbs will soon be clogged with dirt.
- Sand and other abrasive products will reach the valves and valve seats,
rings and pistons, and will produce premature wear.

All this will require a serious overhaul and *very* expensive repair. The benefits are very little increase in power, specially al High RPM. It's not worth the benefits.

I'd give advice to take apart the carbs, and see my howto on carb overhaul. There are the tricks to clean them and set them factory-dafault setting. Follow the easy howto about float height setting too.

Then, visit the local mechanic and ask to sync the carbs. Everything should be fine.

If the RPM keep so up, it's a sympthom that you are running too lean.
