Hi i am in the uk and was wondering if any body has used megacycle cams in there gs500 and if they are any good :dunno: . I have been on the net and can only find the cataloge for jan 2004,does any one know if they are still in business and if i can get hold of a cataloge or email for them. Any info would be appreciated. :)

I have their cams in 2 of my motors and YES they do make difference. Depending on which profile will determine how much difference. I run the .417 lift cams. The catalog on their web site www.megacyclecams.com probably is the same for '05 except for newer model bikes.

Thanks for the reply do you know if they have an email address? Also did you buy the modified pistons or have them machined.

Suprisingly they do not have an email listed on their site. I will look to see if they have an email address on any of the paper work that I have. You may want to try sales@megacyclecams.com

I do have different pistons. One motor has Wiseco 79mm made for the GS but no longer available (I wish I could find a 4th) and the other has Wiseco 78mm GPZ pistons which are a stock item for them.

Also, I am running heavier valve springs which gains about 2000 rpms before valve float. Next is to switch to shim under bucket.

I'm assuming that you are using one of the cams that require modified pistons. Did you have to modify the 78mm Wiseco pistons?

The higher compression pistons will have valve reliefs cut in them. There is still enough valve to piston clearance with stock pistons.

The 78mm GPZ pistons may need a little material removed on the ex valve. I noticed a little marking on the piston were the valve hit it when it spit a shim. A dremel will take care of it.

is it required to run different pistons? or will you still gain hp by using stock?

Dgyver, when are you going to dyno your 79mm engine?  Please say very soon.

This is sounding like a good mod and i have not heard of anyone  else in the uk doing it plus it may stop people passing me down the straits on track days.

Not sure when I will.

But....there is a dyno day this Sunday at a local dealer. I have to work but I may get off early enough to make it.
