heh.  I remember the moment I realized I was going to be working 5 days a week, 8 hours a day for the next, FORTY years.  That was a sobering and depressing though.

I got over it though =)  Happy to have Money to do what I want.  I remember thinking guitars were soooo expensive, i mean who could afford 300 to throw around in college?

Different story now.

QuoteCan you believe Pearl Jam is always on classic rock stations now? that kills me...
I'm in the middle of my second Pearl Jam phase. The first one took place when they weren't on classic rock. Yea, that kills.
I'm 22, junior in college, just changed my major today. I figure I'll be here for a couple more years now, but don't really care. I worked full time for a year after high school to save $ for college, and it was the best investment I ever made. I absolutely hated working full time and absolutely love college life.

Being retired and not HAVING to work is sooo nice. But, sheesh, now that I'm there I'm too worn out to do the things I did at 22. But I still enjoy and love the Baby GS and this forum.

In college, it was hard to know how good was "good enough."  There was always more work, and one extra thing which could have been done to get better marks.   All nighters?  Going overboard to get that last 1%?  Sure!  Go for it, and you'll be rewarded with a special tassel at graduation, and some impressive stuff added to your "permanent record"!

But in a real job, you don't have to work for an arbitrary "100%" score.  Just work at a sustainable level, and people will respect you.  Coworkers who pull all-nighters, or go overboard with effort, actually lose respect with their peers.  Promotions go to people who are predictable, productive and happy (that's where the GS500 comes in).

So in some ways, the artificial pressure is off after college.  People actually respect you for having a life; for having fun; for kicking back; for putting in time as a volunteer; for taking vacations with your family.

I don't miss school at all.  However, in the sciences, the longer you stay in school, the better you get paid.  So, although I'm a happier person for getting out, I sometimes wonder where I'd be if I had kept at it for a few more years.  Staying in school is definitely a good thing.  Just don't fear life after school.

QuoteNow I'm thinking about doing grad school while working full-time....man it's like the worst of both worlds

Man, don't even try that. You will literally kill yourself. Right now I'm in grad school and work half time, and even that is way too much. I'm lucky if I get to hang out with my partner, who I LIVE with, for like half an hour a day.

And Weezer is totally classic. The blue album is one of my all time favorite records, and I have quite a few of them. Man, cranking the stereo and listening to "Only in Dreams"....gives me goose bumps. One hell of an album. Their new stuff is good, but nothing will compare to that first album.

Quote from: vtlionah yes... tunes that I blasted on my cassette tape walkman in grade-school are just now beginning to creep into the 'classic rock' formats on the radio.  Anybody up for some Aerosmith, AC/DC, Van Halen, or Poison?

aaaah, lets hear it for the aging process!!!! BOOYAH!

Stop it... you're making me feel old.  The sony walkman didn't even exist when I was in grade school

I'll hit 32 in June.  I recently lost 70 lbs and I'm in the best shape of my life.  Having lots more fun now than I ever did in college or highschool.  Being married isn't so bad either  ;)

When I look back on my younger years, I am amazed at how much I thought I knew.  Now I realize that I don't know sh*t!  It is amazing.  The older you get, the wiser you are, and the dumber you feel.

Come on now, you guys, i'm about your age & i don't feel dumb at all, especially when i go to class. However, DEVO could have been correct. The last time i felt dumb was when i got pulled over and given a "performance award".

It's not really that you get dumber.  It's more that your realization of how much you don't know outgrows the knowledge that you do manage to accumulate along the way.  When I was a teenager the world seemed so simple.

I know far more now than I did then, but I am also much more aware of how much I don't know.

Well of course! If you knew everything you'd be my parents!

Read much, but not too many books. - Benjamin Franklin

Or to digress:

Remember the nights we sat
and talked about all our dreams
Well little did we know then
they were more distant than they seemed
Well I knew it
you knew it too
The things we'd go through
We knew the things we had to do
to make it, baby.
