I went back to the stealer today and told them about the extended 4 year warranty I have. They said it will add another $200.00 to the trade in price. So I would be getting $4,000.00 for my GS towards a ZX-6R. That plus my $2,000.00 cash would mean $6,000.00 already taken care of and I would finance the rest. My dad would like me to get atleast $4,200-4,500 for it. He thinks that it seems like a waste to have a bike for one season and lose a thousand bucks on it.

....$4k for your bike is damn good from the stealer.....actually that's damn good from anybody....I think your dad's a little off, I understand not wanting to lose $$, but to only lose $1k on a new bike's value after 1 year is pretty good.....kbb for your bike trade-in is $2800....remind him that it looses a lot of value the second you drive it off the lot....

....remember, the dealer has to be able to re-coup the amount they buy the bike from you for.....they'll be cuttin it close at $4k....also, you'll save some $$ on the taxes of your new bike, so it's really closer to the $4200 amount that your dad wants anyway.....purchase the bike for $4k as opposed to $10k....I don't know what your tax rate is, but that's still a damned good savings...
PETE: It's four in the funking morning!

SHAUN: It's Saturday!

PETE: No, it's not. It's funking Sunday. And I've got to go to funking work in four funking hours 'cos every other funker in my funking department is funking ill! Now can you see why I'm SO FUNKING ANGRY?

ED: Funk, yeah!

Hmm... what would Jesus do? ..........I mean you guys. hehe.

According to mastrind it's a good deal. My dad understands buying/selling bikes. he's owned probably over 20 different dirtbikes over the years.

He thinks that we could sell it to some person that will say, "hey here's the same bike that I want to buy new and it's only a year old with very low miles with a couple of mods for 500 less." (selling for 4500 that is)
He thinks we could sell it outright for atleast 4500. Some people are unfamiliar with the bike and will think 4500 or even 5000 is a good deal on it. Most people don't do their research. It sounds sleazy but my dad has definatley made a profit off of buying/selling bikes before. One time we bought this Kawasaki Z100 or something like that. It was a 1995 on/offroad dirtbike thing. We bought it for 800, replaced the piston because the person who sold it to us didnt know what was wrong with it then we turned around and sold it for 1300. It was running perfectly after the new piston. Here I go rambling again I always do that.

Hey anyone want a 1 year old still brand new bike with 3000 miles, progressive springs and EBC HH brake pads for $4,500.00? Remember a stealer offered me 4,000 so trust me it's in good shape. Still has the warning stickers and fender. It even still has the VIN number sticker on the fender. The guy at the dealer laughed at that.

Ehh. I won't try selling it to you guys. Nevermind. I don't know how to ship a bike anyways and wouldn't want to pay for shipping. I think shipping would be about 500 so it would come out to being the price of a new bike. Blarg. Anyone local want it?

I really need to stop this rambling. I'm just going to go now.

PS. My dad told me that if I were to do the trade-in that he would loan me the other 2-3k so I wouldn't have to finance it or worry about interest. I barely payed any interest on my GS though because I paid it off in 5 months. I would be able to pay off 3k in a month and a half.

Not me.  For a $500 difference I'd rather my motorcycle purchase be a virgin.  Because, I don't know what break-in procedure you followed...I don't know if you've been practicing wheelies and/or stoppies...I don't know if you've ever ran it low on oil...I don't like that scratch you put on the fairing...I don't feel good about private transactions involving that much money and maybe I just like a new bike smell. :P  Besides, the dealer or manufacturer might be offering financing.

I'm definitely with Mastrind on this.  Saving your pennies is always a good idea but that trade-in offer looks too good to pass up--and maybe there's a catch--or maybe the dealer is just trying to lure you into that little room for some high pressure arm twisting.  You still sound as if you're ready to get rid of your bike and I'm afraid you're going to get a rude lesson in motorcycle devaluation, be it a year from now or even in a few months.   :dunno:

Laura

Yeah, the trade in price sounds good. And if your dad is willing to lend you the extra money so you don't have to finance or pay interest, it sounds like a no-brainer. As long as you can control the extra power.

I moved up to a bigger bike without a whole lot of miles on my GS, and I think it was a good move for me. I'm riding WAY more, because the miles, and highway speeds, are so much more enjoyable than they were on my GS. The brakes  are better, the suspension is better, and it feels much more stable at higher speeds. I don't have to worry about what gear I am in or what the rpms are to get decent acceleration at highway speeds. I'm actually not riding a whole lot faster than I was on my GS, but I'm putting in a lot more miles, and exploring new roads because I feel more confident on my new bike. But then again, I'm older than you and I am lacking in testosterone, so I am probably a lot more careful than you. And my bike isn't nearly as powerful as a Japanese I4.

cheesy

$4k is an awesome... awesome... trade in price.  IMHO and from what I've seen most people are lucky to get 4k as a private party sale.  Since the gs's have changed sooo little it makes it difficult to sell an 04 that is structurally no different from an 89.

TOMIMOTO

So you guys think it's a good trade in price? Hmmm.... maybe I will have to jump on the offer. I know the price will drop insanely in a year. I'm also going to check out some other dealers first to see what they offer me. I'll do that in the morning. (when I sober up, hehe)

Do you guys really think I wouldn't be able to get more than 4k if I were to try to sell it myself? If so maybe my dad is wrong.

Also what do you guys think of the new Kawasaki ZX-6R. My dad wants the me to get the Honda because he thinks the name and build quality is better than Kawasaki and I would be able to sell it easier if I choose to do so in the future. I havn't gone to the Honda/Suzuki dealer yet though to see what they will offer me so I have to do that in the morning to compare. If they give me more for the bike I will get a Honda. If they can't compete with the price the Yamaha/Kawasaki dealer has given me then I will get the ZX-6R

Well I'm pretty messed up right now. No work tomorrow so I had some (not so good/messy) fun. Time for drinking a lot of water and sleeping.

My bike still is a virgin.

Break in: Just normal city cruising with the occasional jump to redline/varying RPMs. Winding it out here and there helps with the seals in the pistons.

tried a wheelie once. popped the front up but other than that no dice in riding it. tried a stoppie once but the brakes just locked up. upgraded the brakes since than

what sratch on the fairing??!! thats new to me. theres a little scratch about a half an inch long on the tank from my stupid little cousin who sat on it and the right mirror/turn signal/bar end is scuffed from a very soft drop. i would more call it a let down because I was holding onto the bar breaking the fall

as for oil. hahahaha. 3000 miles= 2 oil changes.
We changed the oil at 150 miles than got the oil and filter changed at 600 for the break in tune up.

We also took apart the whole rear/front end and lubed everything since the Japanese don't bother lubing everything. Also we torqued everything to specs.

Another thing my bike I got new with 0 miles on the clock. I even saw it in the crate before it was fully assembled. They got it in that day and I bought it. It has never seen the showroom. Like I stated it still has all the warning stickers and even has the showroom VIN sticker on the fender. This bike is the closest thing to a virgin as your gonna get without buying a new bike. I'm not trying to sell it to you guys. I'm probably going to go with the trade in. I just want to know what you guys think of the new ZX-6R really.

Quote from: mastrind....I don't know what your tax rate is, but that's still a damned good savings...
What are these taxes you speak of. We're a tax free state. Live free or die biatches!! haha. I love new hampshire. When I buy a video game (or anything) for 49.99 I pay 49,99. Not 49.99 plus 5% tax. I love it.

I forgot though we still have 8% prepared food tax. If I buy a buger off the dollars menu it ends up being 1.08 for the 8% tax instead of a dollar.

I went in to my Suzuki dealer to see how much they would give me for GS500 late 03 , I buy a GSF1200s  just to upgradeing for a bigger bike so the long trips are better . anyway they said they would give me $ 5000 aus ( the bike has 18000kms) & still has a year left  for it's parts. Wow I thought to mesefl thats a good price because I check around with other shops & I was told I would only get about $3000-$4000.

So I would go back to the Suzuki dealer where you got it from & see how much they will give.

all the best matt:) your friend & safe Ride:)

If I was in the market for a new bike I would totally buy tomimoto's instead.  Paying for shipping and set up and title and registration is a load of crap, and buying a bike that is just out of the break in period would save at least 1000 here in cali.  I was thinking about buying a new yamaha vino which msrp's for 1800.  But I can get it for 2800 out the door.  WTF!
I came here to kick @$$ or chew bubblegum...and it looks like I'm all out of bubblegum.
