Jake D

British accent: "I just think things should work properly."

When I was a little kid, my dad had a 883 Sportster, black, stripped down, drag bar.  I used to ride on the tank in front of him and I'd say, "Dad, don't go fast!"  He'd say, "Don't worry, Jake.  I won't.  We'll just go slow."  And then next thing you know, BAM, we're doing sixty in first gear!

And because I remember that moment, 23 years later, the Sportster is cool with me. . .

Watched Easy Rider on TV last nite...for the umpteenth time. It really made me miss just cruisin' the country-side at a slow pace, enjoying the scenery, loving the slow-ride...and then, every once in a while, blastin' up to a 100 or so without touching the shifter. God, I miss my Glide. Ed, I am so envious. I wish the Superglide was 6495. Oh yeh, and then I was talkin' on the phone with my sister last nite and she says "I didn't know you could get a new Sportster for 6500", I said "Yes D..... I know, I Know"...and she does the final rub-in "We're gonna get B.....one in a couple of weeks". Rub it in, rub it in. But I love my little vertical twin and this forum.

Having owned a 250 within the last couple of years I can assure you that the GS is a much better bike.  The suspensions are equally as soft between the two, however there is no easy shock solution for the 250 except for a ninja 500 shock which is almost impossible to find.  Katana shocks seem much more plentiful.

The GS' main advantage is a much better frame than the Ninja 250.  Look at a 250 stripped down vs a gs stripped down and you'll see what I mean.  The GS frame is much much stiffer and personally I think a well ridden GS would be just as nimble in the corners as the 250.  When you are talking about bikes with less than 60 or so horsepower 10 ponies adds up.  The GS is alot more bang for the buck.

Here in England HD riders aren't seen as 'real' motorcyclists. Most other riders won't nod or acknowledge them on the road. They are usually only sunny Sunday afternoon riders, in their late fifties with too much money. Usually they have bikes for 5/6 years and rack up, oh say, 400 miles.

That's how it is here anyway.

I rode an Electraglide for about 14 years of which around 2-3 years it was my primary transportation. I had to carry around a lot of chewing gum, baling wire and a hammer just to keep it running  ;) . Love the little GS and the forum.

That was tongue-in -cheek Teecegirl. That bike never let me down. I knew what that thing would do under every riding condition you could think of. It would start right up, cold or hot, was stable as a rock in the ground, comfortable to ride all day long and made me cry like a baby when I sold it. When you build something from the ground up, make it a part of your family and then have to part with it...well it just hurts. But I love my little Baby GS and this forum.

Ahhhh, assumed it had broken down a lot.  That's what I've heard, but obviously not necessarily true.  That's why I like to ask HD owners what they think.  Sounds like you had a wonderful bike.

Quote from: Ed_in_AzHey there Teecegirl, no dissing the HDs, not even the baby HDs(Sportsters). :nono:

Sorry Ed, missed this reply earlier.  I'm not dissing them ... just wonder if what I've heard is true ... that they break down a lot and are over-priced for what you get.  I would love to have a Sportster or a Suzuki Boulevard one day, within two years hopefully.

And cool that you wave to everyone.  The others just crack me up.  I shake my head and keep getting up.

I did have a '48 Pan that could be a little cantankerous at times, but mostly due to the 6 volt electrical system and the carb. But it was a real good scooter and, for the most part, was as reliable as anything else. As far as HP, I doubt either one of those bikes put out more than 45-50 HP or so. But torque out the "yin-yang"   . Love the Baby GS (down on HP though it is) and this forum.

Teecegirl, if you can get one, if you like that kind of ride...get one; you will not be disappointed. If you can afford it get a Glide, but the Snortster is a fine ride too. Oh, Ed will tell you all about the problems HD has ;) . Seriously though, a new HD is like a new Lexus; you will probably never have a problem with it. Love the little twin GS and this forum.

That's definitely the plan in a few years.  My husband is still trying to get over me getting THIS bike.

I'm with Teecegirl.  The "Boulevard of Dreams".  Can't beat them for the price. Fuel injection and shaft drive for low maintenance.  But I'll keep my baby G for scooting around in the rain.

No, but every time I visit the local dealer I sit on one and drool. :o
The C90T has to be the greatest for two up riding.
