Gel seat gets wet

When I bought my bike it came with a gel seat.  Outer surface appears to be leather and it is stitched together.  When the bike is out in the rain,  water gets into the seat through the seams.  In heavy rain the seat gets wet even when covered.  Later, when I sit on the otherwise dry bike, water squeezes out, which gets my pants wet where the seams are.  Is there anything I can do to better seal the seams so the seat doesn't take on water like a sponge?  Or do I have to continue to walk around like I peed my pants when my seat is wet?

Not sure how to cure that but there was a recent discussion on the problem of stitched seams on a seat. The other guys may have some fixes.

...is what you need to use to keep riding suit zippers from leaking.

I used some spray on water proofing stuff that you would use on shoes.   I tested it out to make sure it didn't mark it up.   It did make it a hair darker... not too much.  I sprayed it into a cup at 1st and used a paintbrush to apply.  I did it a bunch of times then sprayed the whole seat.  Seemed to work pretty well.  I will probably get some more and do another coat this spring to make sure I am good to go.  

Yeah that walk is distinctive!  And the water seeps out for a few days too!  Yuck!
