I went to the dealer and low and behold they had another '04 gs500f out there for sale. It was a different sales guy that I started talking to so I tried to get a lower price. The second bike that was out there was a little better looking than the prior one so that was the one I wanted. It had no knicks whatsoever and a clean bill of health. He quoted me some ridiculous price, $4600 before T,T&L, and I slapped him in his face. j/k. But we started haggling back and forth and long story short he sold it to me for $3820 OTD with a $150 helmet and a 1,000 mile service tune-up. I thought it was a fair deal so I took it. I will pick it up today after work. Thanks for all ya'lls advice. I will let you know how my first ride goes.

Hey, not a bad price.  You're either a better haggler than you're letting on, or the salesman had a weak link to the Force.  Well, you did good.  Enjoy the bike, and stick around.

BTW, I know of 600-mile and 1500-mile MOM initial services--never heard of a 1,000-miler... but whatever, a free service is a free service... :thumb:

that is a very good deal, especially from a "dealer."
I must say, you did well.
How many miles were on the new bike?

The bike had about 900 miles on it. I rode it for the first time yesterday after I picked it up. I didn't drop it and all my skin is still on so I got that goin' for me. I mostly stayed in the parking lot and some little neighborhood. I'm not quite feeling bold enough to challenge the torrid houston traffic. I'll give it a month or so.

MSF will help get you going in the right direction.  When I started, I spent most of the first summer just riding the route I used to take by bicycle:  all city streets.  The familiarity helped lots, since I already knew where the cagers tended to run lights or merge without warning :) .
