Hi everyone.  I have just recently purchased a 1990 GS500E and i am wondering what sort of fairings i could put on it?  I've seen the 2004 fairings (gsr) on the 500's and was wondering if it is at all possible to have these placed onto a model as early as a 90?   You may laugh at this request or you may have a opinion...you'll have to bare with me as i'm new to this game!
I really like the race look with the pointy headlight etc...please let me know if you have another suggestion?

Thanks everyone
Mike

Greetings to another Down Under GSTwinner! I have a 90 restoration project underway. The thought of more bodywork has crossed my mind also. This has been discussed on more than a few threads on this board.

Using the current GS bodywork on the pre-2001 chassis did not seem feasible if I recall. For the price of all the bits and bodywork it would take to convert one, not counting the modifications required, you are rapidly approaching a poor return point for the effort.

It seems purchasing similar aftermarket kits designed for the chassis is the better route. Names like Aerotech, Hotbodies, and others that slip my mind, have been discussed.

Use the search function of this board for a few key words (and their misspellings   ) to find the threads. I do know the Hotbodies company has a website, but I do not know if they offer a kit for the older GS. An Aerotech full fairing kit sold in ebay a couple of months ago.

Others will be along soon enough to contribute. Again, welcome!

cheesy

it's not *that* difficult.  Some welding involved, and brackets need to be made for the tailpieces, but all in all it's not impossible.

Very doable ... not really easy but some parts of it were easy like tail section and some other parts are a bit trickier, but can be done with some fabrication skills.
Cool.

I believe in you, this summer I'm going to spend some time and build my own out of fiber glass, with a papermache mold of the frame it will hopefully work out nicly, I'll take pictures of the steps and go from there. Welcome to the forum and keep the shiny side up.

See. I knew some of the "can do" folks would show up!

Thread jack!
Srinath - some kid on a red repainted 90+ said he bought his GS from you. Clemson student. Had home brew clip-ons. My wife and I were eating lunch Saturday when two pulled up at the same place in Anderson. We chatted bikes a bit, he told me his story, I admitted to meeting you, and they asked about good places to ride. I gave them some ideas and left. Just thought you'd like to know your name gets around!  :o

Much appreciated!

I am determined to get it happening now so will let you know of my progress.  Great to join a forum and have such a postive response.  Look forward to further posts!

Who said anything about a "good name"  :)  He was still running around with a ragged 45 day temporary tag on it. I couldn't even see the writing because it was so faded.

After leaving there we went to an auto store to pick up some supplies. Passing back the same way I noticed they were still in the parking lot. Couldn't tell if they were chatting or wrenching.

At least it got him there.
