floating feeling on the 04 gs500F (maybe a newbie feeling)

i have had a 250 rebel for a year before i bought a 04 gs500f, and never felt this feeling before on it.  however when im driving at 50+MPH on the highway i get a crosswind and it feels like a crosswind, however with no crosswind the bike feels as though the back end is going to come out from under me, like a mean floating feeling swinging left and right...  now the rebel you put your weight on the back tire, with this bike, on the front.  is it how im riding that gives me this feeling, or is there something wrong, or is it just my mind playing tricks?

PS, ive had the bike to 100MPH and the feeling is there, but it never gets worse, or does leave the road.  and sometimes it feels better to lean over the tank, under the wind.

Please any input, or self experience, or what your bike feels like when travelling highway...

Thanks

Check and see if the real wheel is straight, aired to recommended pressure.  Check those first and if they check out fine then i dont know what it could be.

I get a 'floating feeling' when riding on cement with deep rain grooves; and on some bridges with steel mesh driving surface.

I know what you mean Benno. I rode HD and Triumph all my life and the Baby is the first "sport-bike" I've really owned to ride much. You are used to the stability of that rake on the cruiser. The little GS is just responding to your every move...just as she was designed to do. Love my little GS, the Amazon River, and this forum.

I've noticed this recently too, mainly at lower speeds.
It kinda feels like the rear tyre is swinging out on corners,
but a chase rider has assured me that it's sitting firm.

I don't get this with a pillion passenger on board, so I'm guessing it's
to do with the softness of the rear suspension.

Perhaps it's time for me to search out a Kat600 shock.

Used to have the same feeling. Relax your arms, and drop your elbows.
I can almost gurantee the problem will go away.

You should have a very relaxed grip on the bars.

Benno

thank for the replys.

now that i think of it, i do ride it with my arms out because that is the style ive been used to.  i will try that when i get my bike back from its first service next tuesday and tell you if it helped.

Thank you for your care.

its very common for people moving from cruiser esque bike to the Gs to have issues with the feeling your refering to.

like I said, just drop your elbows, and relax on the bars. Let the bike do what its gonna do, it only needs minimal effort to make it do what you want it to do.

Ride safe!!
