Ok so I have National Cycle F16 shield, which makes the wind hit me straight on the head. I can't ride without a helmet at all, its a torture. In the helmet it's not as bad. However the big problem is that it wibrates like crazy. It's only attached at the headlight mount and I was woundering where I can get a set of brackets to connect it also to the handle bars.
Here is a picture from their website

you ride without a helmet?  :?

Lower the shield in its mount and attatch the side clips that came with to the headlight bracket. I have the same one and can't complain.

Can you maybe please post a picture? And as far as side clips are you talking about two small metal pieces that attach at the bottom?
What about some type of bracket to attach it to the handlebar?

I'll post one up tommorow if you can wait. I don't know if a $60 windscreen is worth the aggravation/time of fabricating custom brackets. Shop around on the internet and ebay and see if you can find something more substancial. There was an OEM fairing in the for sale section of this site by a respected gstwin member.

I have ridden without a helmet.  I may even do it again some day.

I've got one of these wind screens from National Cycle.  I haven't put it on yet.  But you'd think you could adjust it so the wind hits you in the chest or below the helmet.

I have an F15 and it only attaches with the headlight mounts. I've not seen handlebar brackets for this screen. This type of screen just diverts the air/rocks/bugs etc. away from your chest to improve riding comfort - unfortunately the trade-off for this style is it diverts all those pests right at your head. I can tip mine up a bit so the head blast is not so bad but then I get an irritating reflection from the headlight off the inside of the screen. :(

For vibration you might try thin rubber washers at the headlight mounting sites but the screen might need frequent adjustments to keep in place. Whatever you choose, keep the fasteners tight because they can vibrate loose and the screen can get damaged.

Slipstreamer makes a shield with handlebar brackets - I have one on my Bandit - but the bracket bars that attach to the shield can block view of the instruments.

Good luck - I'll be interested to see what you learn here as well.

Mine doesn't vibrate at all...but because those brackets needed to be pretty much universal for different bikes, I found them really stupid for the GS application.  I mean, you tighten them down right onto the windscreen, thus potentially scratching it!

Anyway, we tightened every bolt nice and tight and mine doesn't shake at all... ;)

I must say, I always found it curious that people think you need a fairing to be comfortable on the GS. I've taken my (01) on trips all around the northeast, and I find that when cruising at anything above 50 or so, the wind blast is indeed pretty powerful. But: leaning forward to have my hands on the bars, my torso would have a tendency to lean forward, and I'd have to use my back muscles to maintain my position.

Instead, the wind blast hits me square in the chest and pushes me upright. I find that the two forces balance each other and make it comfortable to ride for hours on end. Again perhaps contrary to what you'd expect, I am more comfortable when sitting bolt upright and letting the wind hit my chest than when trying to duck under it. Maybe it's not so good for fuel economy, but it saves me from a sore back.

On the other hand, when I duck down the wind goes straight into my neck and head, which is both loud and tiring. I always figured that if I put a fairing on it would be like that all the time. I suppose you can duck under the wind, but then you have to support your torso all by yourself. You don't want to cruise like that.

Sorry, don't mean to threadjack, just my two cents on windscreens.

My problem was that, when on the highway, even when tucked my head would be blown around.  With the windscreen on I don't have that problem.
