Motorcycle dangers
From Mr Paul Smith
Sir, I am becoming increasingly alarmed at the rising number of motorcycle deaths. These accidents, whether the fault of the motorcyclist or other road users or even road conditions, are tragedies for a great many people. The main problem seems to me to be the lack of protection a motorcyclist has.

I wonder whether we should start looking at restricting the use of motorcycles to, say, minor roads, or even banning them altogether?

Yours faithfully,
PAUL SMITH,

Halifax.
April 30.

I'm suprised we haven't seen attempts of this here in the US...  there are seatbelts laws, yet motorcycles are allowed

Dear Mr. Smith, thank you for giving me an idea; I've noticed the alarming rate at which automobiles and trucks are clogging our highways and utilizing our precious fuel resources. I am suggesting that in the future if a person needs to drive somewhere they take a motorcycle instead of a car or truck. That way traffic congestion will go down and we will conserve a little bit more fuel too. Sincerely, C.......

Love the Baby bike, Honduras (lot of people there wanting to come to the USA), and this forum.

I always thought intersections were more dangerous for bikes than highways. Thus, restricting riders to secondary roads might not be any safer.

Anybody know the stats on that?

most accidents between bikes and cars are in intersections, bikes being hit by left-turning cars.

so says my msf book anyway

No shaZam!, Mr. Paul Smith. This coming from a guy who is obviously ignorant of what it's like to ride a morotcycle.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Same logic, just applied to the majority rather than the minority. I'm sure Mr. Smith would be outraged that anyone suggest he not use his car, though. It's funny how people are so quick to take other peoples' freedoms away.

Sir, I am becoming increasingly alarmed at the rising number of home appliance deaths. These accidents, whether the fault of the operator or not, are tragedies for a great many people. The main problem seems to me to be the lack of protection the human body has.

I wonder whether we should start looking at restricting the use of appliances to, say, commercial kitchens, or even banning them altogether?

Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Damn, yet another fee from the state, and another bad picture taken by the witchy DMV employee when you are doing your best impression of Cheech or are squinting so hard you lose bloodflow to your eyebrows.[/quote]

Not to mention the parking problem in the UK.
