ok, so i picked up an 05 F on monday.  Decided to take it for a quick 1st ride today and what happens?  Stalling it a couple times and then a big dump in 1st, yes 1st, gear!  I was making a left hand turn and the tire simply slid out from underneath me. Pulled in the clutch and tried to get the bike up right again with left foot on the ground. IN that same second my foot hit the ground for some reason I started releasing the clutch and twisting with my right hand. Flew forward and started pulling in the front brake, came to a sudden stop and down we went.  Paint damage to the left fairing and sticker, as well as gear plate being scraped up.   :x

I can believe this happened! I think Ill go and shoot myself in the face now
:guns:

Rolled it back into my garage and started it up again. Threw it into first everything seems fine with the gears except having trouble finding neutral at the time... im guessing its my nerves

Does anyone know what kind of white paint I need to buy to repair the fairing?

Sorry to hear that, glad my gs is naked.  Good instinct is learned, read all you can and practice, the MSF course doesn't hurt either.

Good luck, don't let this discourage you :thumb:

That can be a bad habit learned from riding BMX (or maybe motocross?): putting the inside foot down.  You were probably travelling >10mph (or even >15mph), and putting a foot down at those speeds is not helpful.  If you're lucky, your foot will touch loose dirt or gravel and will slide; if unlucky, your foot will catch on solid ground, and you can really twist-up the ankle or knee.

QuoteIN that same second my foot hit the ground for some reason I started releasing the clutch and twisting with my right hand.

Possibly you were surprised when the ground grabbed your foot, and your whole body twisted backwards and to the left side (surprise :o ).  Keep those feet on the pegs, as soon as you start moving, and until you stop.  If I'm on rough ground/gravel, I sometimes stand on the pegs a little.  I'm not sure that it helps with riding, but it sure keeps me from putting a foot out!

If you haven't taken MSF, that's a good place to start.  The instructors will work on when it is OK to take your feet off the pegs.
You cannot escape our master plan!

Look at it this way: your bike has been de-virginized.

Now, what have you learned? Why did the tire go out from under you? Was it because the tire was brand new and not broken in yet? Was the tire cold? Were you going faster than the tire could handle at that point in time? Were you smooth in your steering input?
At this time in your riding career, when a tire slips, steer or lean your body to get the bike as verticle as possible to obtain a larger contact patch. Don't put your foot down.

I was gonna say: 'learn to ride, not to crash' , but I don't want to offend. I mean no offense.

your right on rema with the bmx thing

i just got back from starting the bike up after letting it sit awhile. With the choke on when started it barely got above 500rpm, gave it gas and shot up to 4000rpm let the choke out a little and dropped to 1000...opened choke up again and made no gains until throttle used

did i f%$k my bike up?  sorry for the dumb question but its my 1st bike

Sorry to hear about your learning curve experience. When you ask about white paint, are you referring to the white trim? I thought 05's had black frames/engines and blue/yellow base colors for the plastics.

Help enlighten me.  :)

im 25 rclz....been on 600s before sporadically. Only time a bike has ever gotten away from me like this before was last year on 636, but i didnt drop it.

Bike was on the ground for maybe 2 seconds, didnt care about myself just get the bike up and lookout for cars.  The paint is white with blue decals this year. I dont really care about the decals because I know I will drop it a couple more times(everyone does) and I eventually want to paint it all blue

So I continued playing around with the choke and whenever I closed it the engine died. Turned the bike on again and decided to play with the idle dial. Runs perfect now!  I guess the dealer didnt set it properly(brought it home in a hitch).  Im thinking that when I stalled before the dump this could have contributed to my problems in the low speed left(was riding with choke partially open)...but Im probably just making excuses

Live and learn....thanks for the link gyver

Your 25 and you've ridden 2 stroke 600's before but a 4 stroke gs owns you? Im 17 and I can barely touch the ground with the palms of my feet on my gs yet I've never stalled/dumped while riding.

hey rclz...I understand your 17, but you should know what sporadic means. If not, it means not a lot or infrequently!  I didnt grow up around bikes, so this was bound to happen sooner or later...

I really hope karma doesnt dropkick you in the face

Got one better.  The first day I got the bike my wife wanted to sit on it.  So I let her sit on it and what happened?  I left the kickstand down (just in case and as she got off iof it she pushed the handlebars to the right (oposite of the kickstand and dropped my new bike.  Skuffed up the mirror, scratches on the engine, skuffed up my bar end.

Lesson learned....went out next week and bought a bike my wife could fit a 2005 Kawaski Ninja 250...Could'nt let her hurt my GS again....lol

I bet your have huge chicken strips on your tires, why are you dogging someone when they just feel dumb for what they did.   If he was feeling proud of himself or sounded stupid then maybe your comment would be appropriate but keep your mouth shut.  You have that gsr bike on your avatar, an R, what, thats like a honda civic with type r written on the side, in other words ghey.

How about you give the guy a break we all have made mistakes when we were learning how to ride.  Dont flame the poor guy.

It happens, I dropped my 2000 VFR off the ramp putting it on the trailer and did $800 worth of damage to it... talk about stupid.

Anyways, I would really suggest taking the MSF riders course. It will teach you some good street riding habits.

So I have a picture in my avatar of a bike I think looks good, but you find something insignificant like the GS-R logo on it to make a diss. And uh....is the topic about my avatar picture, no so shut your mouth. Also I take it your other bike is a Honda Civic with a type R badge on the side.
