Penguin Roadracing School (no, it doesn't involve penguins)

Well I've been planning on doing a couple trackdays this summer since there is a track 45-60 mins away from me. I went to my dealer to see if they had any info on it and they gave me a pamphlet on this Penguin Roadracing Course. It seems really cool. Anyone heard of it or have done it? Theres a basic course and an advanced course. Each course costs 220 dollars. I guess first you take a class in a classroom then after you ride in small groups on the track to get a feel for it and practice techniques. After that I guess you have all day to just play around on the track. It seems really cool. The instructors are expert racers too. You can even get individual tutoring. I can't wait. Once my CBR breaks in and I get some full race gear I'm definately going to do this. Also they have race prepped Ducati 990SS's that you can rent if you don't want to use your bike. Also when you complete the basic course you can get your racing license.

EDIT: Now that I looked at the website I guess they only do it in NH and Florida. I guess I'm lucky it's so close to me.

I'd want to do something like that... Once you have some experience under your belt, track days and racing schools really help you with control through turns and to improve your skills and confidence.  And you get to know your bike a lot better in a controlled environment :) Just don't do a full lean out in public, your local twisties might not be swept clean of debris!

I'd definitely suggest to do it!  :thumb:

I'm definately going to do it. Well if my dad lets me. I'm also going to do the MSF courses sometime. I never did any of that.

Also I have a question. To prep my bike for the track they say to flush the radiator fluid and put in purified water. What's the use of that?? Won't the water just evaporate? Anyone know why? I'm sure Pantablo knows.

Normally tracks require non-glycol based coolant like water wetter or engine ice.  I am not familiar with those that require straight water only.  The reason they want you to get rid of the anti-freeze revolves around wrecking.  If you wad your bike, it will most likely leak coolant, and glycol based coolant is almost impossible to completely clean up, and it will leave the track slippery for some time.  

Most tracks will have a racing school of some type during the riding season.  The beginner course might be good for you, but schools like that will mostly emphasize the rules of racing and not always technique.  It looks like the class you take in order to be able to club race.

Personally, I would look for a more skills oriented course first, worry about what all the little flags mean later.

water boils at a higher temp when its pressurized,  think it goes up like 5 degrees for like every PSI or somthing like that. average cooling system is about 12-16lbs pressure once warmed up? water boils at  100c and thermostats opening can be 130-150c?

when you mix it with other chemicals the boiling point can go Higher.

problem is, the chemicals in coolant are slipery and generaly dont evaporate too easy.  if case of a wreck or blown hose water spills and dries up with no issue.
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
