Ducatis are cool but I'm going with SV650S

Friday spent 5 hours bike shopping.  Went to a Ducati/Aprilia shop to look at Monsters and Supersports.  SS800 is sweet but uncomfortable.  Monster is cool and I can flatfoot it but, no fairing.

Honda VFR is nice but big an heavy.  Too much plastic to replace if I drop it.

SV650S is lightweight, low seat height, not very aggresive riding position, decent wind protection, little plastic, and the winner.  Buying a new one this week.

I saw your post on socalsvriders.com.  This will probably be the cheapest place you can find OTD http://www.layamaha.com/sb1.htm
Maybe you can get a San Diego one to match.

It was funny, when I clicked on the link it looked very familiar.  Layamaha and LaCycleSports are the same, I have the same list.  I contacted four dealers in San Diego and they all match OTD price of LA guys.  I will buy locally, at least I should contribute to the local economy.

I am suprised that the San Diego dealers will match. Going local will be much less of a hassle. Usually LAcyclesports sell the SVs OTD for MSRP. Guess it is because summer is almost starting.

I just talked to AlbaAction in Poway, he said he will match.  I rather drive 5 miles instead of 150 to LA.  If I don't get any response from solcalsvriders by Friday afternoon I am heading to the dealer.

Where are you in SD?

Done.  Bought a brand new yellow 05 SV650S.

Local dealer matched OTD price of LA Online dealer without any issues.  10 minutes of paperwork and it was done.  Cool.

I'll hang on to the GS500 for a while.

I've been shopping around for a replacement for my '96 GS500 as well. It served me well and was a blast (when it was running). Traditional carbs are such a headache IMO. I definitely wanted something new that was faster and had auto fuel injection.

I never really understood Suzuki in terms of their color schemes decision making (until the 2005 GSX-Rs came out). Why on Earth would you not change the color scheme on the SV650 from 2004 to 2005? It only makes sense! I mean blue and yellow are not exactly what I would call bold, sexy, and new. That is the only thing holding me back right now. I would buy a 2005 SV650s in a heartbeat if it had colors like that of its big brother SV1000s (all black or red). Anybody else feel the same way?!? That copper color in 2003 was nice as well.

Well, time to get off my soapbox. It is either a blue SV650s or a black/grey GSX-R1000 (see signature) for me. What a dilemma, eh?

in my opinion the only good looking color scheme for the 05 gsxr 1000s is yellow/black the other color schemes dont look defined or flow as well, and older gsxr yellow schemes were so ugly with solid banana yellow (barf) well solid colors in general dont look great unless you have little to no fairings like the svs

also why would you not be considering an sv1000s vs gsxr 1000 ???

instead its 650 vs 1000 *shrug* odd

Reason I went with yellow is high visibility.  I wish it was a little more toned down though.  It is a strange yellow.

The main reason being weight. According to Motorcyclist Mag the GSX-R1000 is an unbelievable 365lb dry! The SV1000s is 408lbs dry, while the SV650s is 372lb dry.

The reviews I've read about the SV1000s were mixed, but alot of people said it was heavy and slightly lacking in the power department for its class. I figured I would either buy the SV650s for its fun factor and "best bang for your buck" or buy the trickest/hottest Suzuki out there (excluding the 478lb dry Hayabusa for obvious reasons).

Even though I'm only 5'2" tall the 2005 GSX-R1000 felt more comfortable to me than any other 2005 GSX-R and the 2005 SV650s  :dunno:

Everyone tells me to get the GSX-R1000 because "you only live once", but I'm afraid people will think I'm some hotrod/hooligan wannabe. Besides, I keep telling myself the SV650s should be able to keep up with the big boys (I hope) as long as everyone keeps it under 100mph. Also, the SV is $5K cheaper (I could buy a lot of nice gear with that change  :) ) and I wouldn't be afraid to take it to the local track, ride it in the rain, or even possibly dropping it.

I'd get the SV.  I like your reasoning.  Stick with it, you only live once.
As for keeping up with the big boys they'll have trouble keeping up with you in the twisties.

Don't get sucked into the bigger is better vortex.  An sv with suspension mods is a GREAT bike.  Plus there is a huge aftermarket for it.

At the track day I went to, there were a number of '05 GSXR-1000s, and a couple of the folk with earlier GSXR-1000s commented that the new ones walked away.  Apparently, they're monsters.  Honestly, though, the FI SVs are supposed to be faster than the carbed SVs, and mine is, to me, really stinkin' fast.  I would consider a current SV to be plenty of bike!  When I was in getting my 500F, they were selling '04 SVs for $500 off.

And... YELLOW IS GOOD.
