RE: Liter bike

So my friend finally let me ride Buddha Loves You on his cbr liter bike.  This was my first experience on a supersport.  

First thing I noticed is....no grab bar...one hand on the riders shoulder and the other around his waist; I spent most of the time going over bumps with my feet off the pegs and my ass flying in the wind(or so it felt like).

I got to feel the guts of one of those bikes...came out of a sweeper gave it a little gas and the acceleration literally closed my lid shut.  A few seconds later, when he backed off the throttle, I peeped over his shoulder and saw mid 90's on the speedometer (that was third gear).


Anyways, I'm sticking with the GS...I'm in no rush to get on a bigger bike but now at least I know what all the fuss is all about.

My friend is one of the most responsible riders i know, and he told me that it sucks not being able to get out of third gear but to him is all about how fast you can get get up to 60 that counts.

my younger brother has a race prepped super hawk.  went riding with hi a few weeks,  on a long straight country road. I pulled away from a stop sign kinda quick and got the gs up to about 70,  little brother went bye me like I was standing still with the front wheel about a foot off the ground.  I caught up to him about a mie down the road,  He passed me at 104 mph and had just hit 2nd when the wheel came up.  he went from 0 to 104 in  about 100 yards.  he has a time slip from the previous owner of the bike,  it was clocked at 240mph in the back straight away at mid ohio.  The previous owner said that it was only in 5th gear, he ran out of room and had to slow down...   I rode the bike a couple of times,  all I can say is scary fast!!!!!

I think with the gearing on the new GSXR 1K they can do 100 or 105 mph in first gear at redline.  Don't know from experience, but what I have heard.  I think my TL1000S  will do 60-70 mph in first.  Way more power than I need so I have a tendency to shift at about 7 or 8k rpm.  The power is fun, but the GS is still more fun in the twisties and empty parking lots.

Jasco....I believe that's just theorectical gearing according to the redline of the engine...anyways...it's enough fast..maybe too much...

Last night I read a review on a liter Ninja, and the writer said that at redline you shift into second at triple digits. I thought, "Whut?"

i recall reading the same thing.  The theoretical top in first gear for the ZX10 is 101 or 102mph.

The super hawk mybrother has has been dyno'd at 143 rear wheel hp.  This bike is fully race prepped.  not race plastics on a stock bike.  the engine has been highly modified as has the transmission,  It has had headlights/tailights added so that it can be ridden on the street.  highway speeds of 55 - 70 are usually in first gear,  on flat ground second can be used for a short time but the engine will bog down as the rpms drop to much.   it does not like to run below 60 or 70 mph.   Sorry if you think its BS I dont really care--  just sharing a story..  He has moved to tuscon  if your in the area let me know I'll have him demonstrate

In they city I rarely get out of second on my TL.  Sometimes shift to third.  On the highway at 75 mph I think my rpm is at 4-4.5k.  I normally don't make redline runs on the TL like I do on the GS, because the power is sufficient at a lower rpm range.  

If you wanted to scream around at redline in first all the time you can, but you would probably would rather cruise around in a lower gear and lower rpm.  Just casue it can do 100 mph in first doesn't mean you have to do that everytime.

The problem is that I don't think that the new GSXR1000 pro race bikes will do 240 mph.  I think the race versions are pushing out 180-200 hp.  I'm sure his bike is fast, Hell my completely stock TL1000 is fast, I just don't think the numbers you provided are very realistic.  Just my opinon though.

P.S.  If it is bogging down in second than I would probably say that it isn't a very good race set-up.

as I stated in the orginal post the 240mph time slip was provided by the previous owner.  I have not seen it nor can I verify it.  all I now is that it is scary fast.  Under 40 mph it will not run!!  40-60 is ok but generally it will start to miss.  if you crack the throttle to smooth it out it will dump you on your ass.  1st to 2nd is violent to say the least.  it is impossible to keep the front end down.  2nd to 3rd is a little more tame but still scary.  thats as far as I have taken it.  (got scared).  he was talking about going to the salt flats to see just how fast it would go in a straight line.  dont know what has become of this plan last time I talked to him he was trying to find sand worthy tires??  (dont know anything about that)  I guess we'll see.  I will let you know wht happens if he does it.

nearly all new litter bikes WILL do tripple digets in first.
They gear it that way so it wont stand the front end straight up everytime you crack the throttle.

If you wanted to, you could ride around all day and never shift out of first....

240 on a Superchicken?  Thats a kick.  Maybe if it had a turbo strapped on, and a stright stretch of road over a mile long.  The big built 'busa with aero cf body work, and a huge turbo topped out on the salt flats at 248mph.  

As for the other topic, my TL gets awfully close to 100 in first.  Mostly though, I shift WELL short of redline, and ride it like a normal bike.  You don't have to see the upper end of the tach to get anywhere like on a GS.

my gs does like 316 mph, thats when i have another person on the back and i unhooked my powerband.  I havent installed my flux capacitor yet so when I get that done we will be looking at like 480 mph or somthing.
